It’s no secret that Miami was a dumpster fire last season. How else could Joe Philbin have survived a disastrous 2014 season? It wasn’t good looks, I’ll tell you that.

Whether Tannehill was urinating blood, or Dallas Thomas was somehow still in possession of a starting spot, it was a forgettable season with a mere sprinkle of memorable plays.

The Dolphins are still full of question marks, but such is to be expected under a first-year head coach who inherited a team of disappointment. As Adam Gase tries to turn that disappointment into a respectable football team, he’s going to be relying on these players to step up in a big way in 2016.

The writer makes the same mistake that so many writers make, calling out the 3rd down conversion rate without any regard for being in 3rd and "longest in the league" for the whole season. There were issues on all three downs, not just 3rd. Nobody calls up the stats for number of 1st and 2nd down plays that fall short of expectations.

So are you admitting that Tannehill needs to work on his every down passing?

Don't know about EVERY down, but here are Tannehill's rankings I can find . . . pass completion % on 1st and 10 - 12th pass completion % on 3rd and short - Tied 16th pass completion % on 3rd and medium - last pass completion % on 3rd and long - 25th can't find data on 2nd down. As with every stat, there are unknown variables but 3rd down should be the focus.

Tannehill and Maxwell were the first 2 names that popped in my mind.

I'd go Alonso and both guard spots as my 5

The offense wasn't good enough on 1st and 2nd down. There were as many reasons for it as there were offensive players on the roster and coaches on the coaching staff.

It is lazy to try to pin it on one player.

3rd down should not be the focus when the team average is 3rd and 8 or more yards. The primary goal should be to get that yards to go number down. Third down will take care of itself.

We could lead the league in 3rd and long conversion % and it still wouldn't good enough. We have to get the average down to 3rd and 4 or 5.

If you turn this into another Tannehill thread I swear, to all that is holy, that I will smite you.

???

I posted two replies that did not mention Tannehill. Four other posts mention Tannehill. You posted this in my response to pointing out TEAM issues:

Then this latest post because I didn't take the bait. Dude, please.

Step up too me means they must play better than they did last year as a dolphin. You simply cannot lump the new players who played on different teams last year.

To me, Tannehill obviously, Parker....injuries were his downfall but he shows real #1 WR potential. Billy Turner is another to step up. Has the physical ability, just needs the mental ability to be 'on' all the time. If he is reinstated, Dion Jordon must show something...anything...and nev Hewitt. He must take over a lb spot and keep it on performance, not by default or injury.

I only mentioned 5 but there are at least another 3 or 4 that haven't shown much.

I think if Jordan Cameron falters, then Duante may be a big chance at getting a lot of playing time.

We don't disagree much. Remember the complaints of Lazor calling 8 yard routes on 3rd and 11? As I said, there are factors other than comp %.
