It amazes me that any team would ever go into a season without a FB. You need to have all options available from a game plan perspective.

I would tend to agree, if only for short yardage situations.

I know 15 yrs ago, one of the key reads for a LB was the FB. Maybe that is one reason for the phase out, but the FB position was really so much more than simply a lead blocker.

Tom Rathman, IMO one of the best ever FBs, caught a lot of passes out of the backfield off play action.
