Dolphins free agency: The team spoke with Channing Crowder's representation this week but showed no interest in substantially increasing the offer Crowder rejected a couple of months ago -- one that Crowder called a ''special-teams contract'' in value. With the sides far part, no meeting was scheduled at next week's NFL combine, and Crowder seems likely to depart, though neither side completely closed the door.
The Dolphins also talked numbers with Andre' Goodman, but a deal wasn't close as of Monday. Talks will resume soon.
Goodman wants to cash in after finishing 20th among NFL cornerbacks with a 51.1 percent success rate defending passes thrown when he was in coverage. Conversely, Will Allen -- signed through 2009 -- was 42nd with a 46.2 percent success rate, ESPN's KC Joyner said. The free agent market has several starting-caliber cornerbacks, so Miami might be willing to take its chances on losing Goodman.
The Dolphins will intensify talks with Yeremiah Bell at the combine and very much want to keep him. The Dolphins are working hard to sign a multi-year deal with Vernon Carey, and if they cannot, they might place the franchise tag on him by the Feb. 19 deadline.

I think reporters have no clue at thins point. Yersterday they say they've offered contracts to Bell and Crowder, and they dont even mention it in that article...

Hill and Goodman won't come cheap as some people think.

Goody is going to want a solid deal since he had a solid season. And the Drew Rosenhouse/Renaldo Hill combo could require the Fins to pay 3+ million to keep him. We earned just under 2 last year . . . and he started . . . and he is relatively young still.

I know the Fins wont let them all walk . . . but don't be suprised if only 2 of the 5 are retained.

I think the fact that Channing isn't being offered the big money he wants pretty much tells him good luck finding it elsewhere. It doesn't matter that Bell and Crowder were offered the same deal or not. I think we do what we have to to keep Bell and if we lose Crowder, oh well.

I'm fine with parting with Renaldo Hill. He wasn't anything special. Our secondary couldn't do anything against big receivers (see Boldin/Fitzgerald in Arizona, Moss NE, A. Johnson Houston).

We need to upgrade. Keep Bell. Let Hill and Goodman go. Goodman had a great statistical number, but did not play well against the big receivers when we needed him to. That number is better than he actually is. I wouldn't mind keeping him, but I don't want to pay him as the 20th best in the league.

Crowder can go. Plenty of quality linebackers out there via free agency and the draft.

I do not understand the negativity regarding Renaldo Hill. He didn't enter the line-up until after the Arizona game (he relpaced Crocker) and the secondary steadily improved. I'm open for an upgrade, but the secondary is much like the offensive line: continuity is important. I would like to see more consistent pressure on the opposing QB from the DL/LB opposite Porter. Bottom line, I see improving the secondary as a lesser need than O-line, D-Line, LB, and WR.

no crow for me? oh well

I said that we would strictly make him a love-it-or-leave-it offer

a 4-3 team will offer him good money and I think he will thrive there

Carey and Bell are two must signs in my opinion, and it looks like the front office feels the same. I would also like to see Goodman re-signed, but if we don't re-sign the others, I won't be upset.

Let Smiley face Crowder go and smile for another team.I'm ready for a hungry rookie at linebacker....

Crowder can get the money and he knows it. He is actually a very smart guy even if he acts like a clown sometimes.

If Ray Lewis goes right away or re-signs with the Ravens and Vilma is re-signed with NO(which is highly likely); Crowder becomes the #1 ILB on Scout.com's list of available FA's.

A tag and trade scenario should not be a joke to anyone. It may very well go down that way.
