Though the Dolphins started contract talks with potential 2010 free agents Ronnie Brown and Matt Roth, they have not with Anthony Fasano and want to see more. ``He's a solid tight end, not special,'' one NFC personnel director said. ``You would like to find a better No. 1 ideally.''

An associate said Michael Vick isn't enamored with playing for Orlando in the United Football League, but a $1 million offer would be tempting if he's suspended by the NFL or if no NFL team bids. And no, the Dolphins haven't inquired about Vick. (Dennis Green predicted Vick could sign with Miami, but the Dolphins have Pat White for that role.)

I guess those 10 games where Fasano had two receptions or less, including 3 with zero receptions, is something they want to see him improve on.

Yea, he completely disapeared in the Az game..

Antonio Gates 2008 stats 60rec 704yards 8td's

Anthony Fasano 2008 stats 34rec 454yards 7td's

well if fasano isnt "special" than gates should be a little more than "solid" according to the NFC guy...why not get a guy from the AFC first of all

26 less catches and 1 less TD isnt bad for a player in his first year with a team and QB while Gates has been with Rivers for years and is the #1 passing option for san diego

- dont say hes not special after one year just cuz hes not one of the BIG names like witten clark gonzalez and gates, he definetly has potential to be "special"

I just don't see what some of you guys do in Fasano. The guy is solid but that's about the extenet of it IMO. I'm not downing the guy, I think he's a good player but some people on this board seem to think he's going to be a perrenial all pro and one of the best TE's in the game and I just don't see that in him. Hope I'm wrong tho......

At this point in his Dolphins life, I think that's a fair and reasonable assessment.

I like him alot, but he has much more to prove and I sure that's why the Trifecta haven't trade-baited Martin, have brought in the two youngsters and are open to see if Wilford came make the switch.

For the record, I do believe his stock will rise after a full training camp with Penny.

Hey NCFINFAN13-What part of the state are you in? I'm in the Raleigh area if you're ever over this way. Usually catch games at Blinco's on Glenwood Ave.

I like Fasano. The guy can block and he does not drop a lot. When is the last time we had a TE you could say that about? McMichael??? NOT!!! It has been a LONG TIME...

In addition, the TE position was also being split with Martin. He also had 450 yards in receptions. It is hard to get pro-bowl number when your splitting duty with another guy who is putting up decent numbers too.

Anyone down-playing Fasano's contribution is "looking a gift horse in the mouth" IMO. He may not be a pro-bowler, but he fills a position well enough that we don't have to look at it much. That is a good thing.

I would love to have pro-bowlers at every position, but first we need to just have solid players at all positions. Fasano meets that criteria IMO.

I just went back over our history and I don't think we have a had a decent TE since K. Jackson, and there were a lot of reasons to hate on him too....

I wouldnt mind bringing in a more Athletic TE but I also wouldnt mind having him be the #1

I think Roth and Brown are the top priorities and that we should also look at locking up Davone Bess soon. I think we could possibly franchise tag Chad Pennington. I don't want him going anywhere

Can't keep them all probably. Brown is going to get a big contract, Bess not so much but it wont be dirt cheap either. No way they'll be able to afford to franchise a QB though.

I know right where that is. My office is in Durham (I live in Wilmington).
I have DirecTV, but I like catching the night games, (when I'm away from home) in a bar, so I'll meet you there this season.

"...And no, the Dolphins haven't inquired about Vick...."

Best news I've heard in awhile after all the senseless speculation about getting him. Yo Dennis Green. Guess Parcells ain't who you thought he is, ya moron.

Talent is talent, and Vick has already paid for what he did with 2 years of his life. If we didn't draft Pat White it wouldn't surprise me in the least if we took a flyer on Vick.
