Finally official....Taggart to be FSU's head coach. Only the their head coach I have known. Went to school with Willie and could not be happier. In fact when he was playing for Manatee he came out and helped coach me when I played youth league. Great hire.
Outstanding! I hope he brings his staff mostly intact.
I would expect at least Levitt and Woodie. Woodie is the one person that has been with Taggart since the WKU days and is seen as a top recruiter. Levitt is an excellent D-coordinator. Not sure what will happen with Cristobal, would love to have him as he is not only an OC, but also an o-line coach.
I would love to have all three of them!
Goodbye Kelly and hello Leavitt.
I nearly shed a tear. You know how much I loved Kelly!
This is a real good hire. Congrats guys. I’m sure you’re ecstatic.
As did I...Leavitt took a colorado defense that was ranked in the 100s to 12th in the country in 2 years. At ORegon he took a 119th ranked defense to 58th. I doubt either of those schools have near the raw talent that the Noles have. Even losing some top guys in James, Sweat, and McFadden...there are always guy waiting to take over.
Thank you. Very excited...Jimbo is a great coach, but the team felt stale after he won the national title. I almost feel like this is a change the program needed.
Of course you realize the bond between Willie and the Harbaughs. Shame we dont play annually lol
When I was in the 9th grade Willie was a senior...we worked in the office as aides together. This was in the old days where you had to collect teacher's attendance for the front office to scan into the system. When he went on his recruiting trip to WKU he brought me back a signed Harbaugh football card (I still have the card and I cannot remember if I gave him the card or just brought it back for me). From what I have been told is that papa Harbaugh loved Taggart and saw him as another son.
You may see some future scheduling between the programs...could be fun on an every other year basis.
Looks like you got a good one guys. Congrats just stay away from our WR coach Dugans who's an FSU grad and friends with your new coach.
I remember old Ron Dugans pretty well, come home brother!
He's a great recruiter
We need that right now...I hope he can salvage this class. A big issue is there are reports that Jimbo didn't recruit the last month he was with the program putting us behind. Him leaving hit us hard as well. If Taggart can manage to get this turned around for a top 15 class (I think we are 40 something right now) I would see it as a huge win at least for this year. I expect to be back in the top consistently next year and going forward.
It is going to be fun and somewhat stressful watching him and Richt battle it out for in-state players. Looking forward to the ACC title coming back to the state of Florida.
The Noles are bringing in Ray Woodie. I know Ray pretty well, I coached for him for a time. A really great guy that when you meet him you can easily tell why he is such a good recruiter.
I just don't think Jimbo had I his heart in it this year. FSU just seemed way better prepared the past two games. Granted, the team's they played weren't great but they dominated as they should have but hadn't all year long.
Yes, I mean we have played poor teams this year and have done nothing against them...Jimbo just seemed like he has wanted out after winning the national title and was just waiting for the right program (amount of money) to come along.
I think you are 100% right. We haven't played sharp football since the NC game. We really weren't even sharp there. Good riddance, it's Taggart Time!
FSU's staff has gone through a very nice overhaul...adding a top D coordinator as well as addressing overall team strength (new Strength and conditioning) and adding an o-line coach. All areas of concern last season that we hope to improve this season.
Noles staff is complete
HC: Willie Taggart
OC: Walt Bell
RB: Donte Pimpleton
OL: Greg Frey
TE: Telly Lockett
WR: David Kelly
DC: Harlon Barnett (nothing is sweeter than writing anything other than Charles Kelley next to "DC")
DT: Odell Haggins
DE: Mark Snyder
LB: Ray Woodie
ST: Alonzo Hampton
Welcome to FSU men....now go recruit and save this class.
Good Lord, that is such the truth! Kelly seems like a really nice guy but he is a terrible defensive coordinator.
With Primetime out of the picture, who are they going to get to coach defensive backs?
The DC is coaching the DBs as well, although I won't be surprised if he gets an assistant to help with that.
A little info on the DC....he had 6 sophomores and a true freshman starting on his defense last year and had the 7th ranked defense.
I can't wait to see this team play. I just have a great feeling about this team and staff.
I can't wait to see what this kid does in Willie's offense...
Crazy train! He'll be our Barkley.
HA HA HA I like this guy
Yes, The team and fanbased are energized for the first time since the National Title run.
Also, he has managed to help with a dismal recruiting start under Jimbo taking us from 47th to 26th. I count that as a small victory and hope that by Feb 7th we are back in the top 20 looking to be back in the top 10 next year.
We are now 15th and 16th in class rankings...I expects some movement as signing day approaches, but a hell of a job salvaging this class that was left for dead when Jimbo "if I get lucky, maybe I will be runner-up in the east" Fisher decided that his energy would be better spent not prepping for games or recruiting...
10th in Rivals...11th in 24/7. Nice finish and job well done in a transition year...attacked WR and DB hard after losing a good number of those players.
Not bad at all for where we started...and we are still ahead of Texas A&M. Juck Fimbo!
4-star safety Jaiden Woodbey (early enrollee)
4-star cornerback Anthony Lytton
4-star cornerback Asante Samuel Jr.
4-star cornerback Isaiah Bolden
4-star defensive tackle Robert Cooper
4-star linebacker Amari Gainer (early enrollee)
3-star offensive lineman Christian Armstrong (early enrollee)
3-star running back Anthony Grant (flipped from Tennessee)
4-star FSU linebacker commit Xavier Peters
4-star FSU offensive lineman commit Christian Meadows
3-star FSU offensive lineman commit Jalen Goss
4-star FSU defensive end target Malcolm Lamar
4-star FSU receiver commit Warren Thompson
4-star FSU defensive tackle commit Dennis Briggs
3-star FSU receiver commit D’Marcus Adams
3-star FSU receiver commit Keyshawn Helton
4-star FSU receiver target Tre’Shaun Harrison
3-star FSU defensive tackle target Jamarcus Chatman
3-star FSU defensive end commit Chaz Neal
3-star receiver Jordan Young (flipped from Tennessee)
4-star FSU tight end commit Camren McDonald
Here is the class...MY favorite player by far is Asante Samuels Jr. This kid is a magnet to WR's...lives in their hip pocket..he has some dog in him to. He is shorter and I feel that is what kept him from being one of the top 3 CBs in the class. I expect he will end up playing some as a freshman. The other big name is Tre'Shaun Harrison...under Jimbo Freshman WR's typically were forced to sit the bench, but Willie will play Freshman. Harrison has the most talent out of the class.
Timmy B not having the best week on twitter
Willing Taggart is still recruiting hard and landing guys...
1st was 4 star QB - Sam Howell who reminds many of Baker Mayfield (in play style and not just looks)
Next, we get a commit from 4 star OG Dontae Lucas...that right a 4 Star offensive lineman...thank god Willie values having a good line.
Finally, we land 4 star OLB Jaleel McRea
I am so frigging excited that Willie is our coach and Fisher is gone. Despite winning, I just never liked Fisher. I love Willie and his attitude and accountability. The kids seem to love him too and the cohesiveness of the team is better than I've seen it in years. I can't wait to see this team play the wood on the field. Go Noles!
Coach Willy has done a good job righting the ship for you guys. Dontae Lucas will play guard in the NFL and was somebody we were after.
If UF can get their crap together, it will be a heck of a lot of fun to watch dominant Florida football again.
**** them and the horse they rode in on but I will like it when FSU vs Miami is for the ACC.
