Florio: Half measure by Stephen Ross will hamper his Dolphins

They are not GMs. They are Directors and Vice Presidents of Player Personnel on some other team under consideration to move up and be in charge of roster building here.
They need to prove themselves on their first contract on that new higher position before they are given free reign to hire and fire coaches. If they want to be a big dk from the get go, than they can stay home, do what you are doing. In the end, it is not even their decision, it is the owner's decision at this time to hire and fire head coaches.

I would not want anyone who does not believe in McDaniel's system anyway. They do not believe in Super Bowl pursuit. I do not want people like that running anything. That would result in instant dismissal.
You are a moron if you think McDaniel will ever take this team to a Super Bowl! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

No general manager should be hired who wants to implement a coaching strategy. That's not his job nor the area of expertise. Maybe one day it will be, but not right now. Anyone who is interviewed for the GM position and who mentions how a coach should coach should be dismissed immediately.

WTF are you talking about? Are you retarded? A GM should be able to hire his own head coach! Period!

You are wrong. President hires and fires head coaches. We do not have a position of the President of Football Operations. We have managing partners Ross, Beal, and a President Garfinkel.
A fool better not come in saying how he will change this and change that if he wants the job. Whoever interviews for the position better be focused on pitching his job which is building a Super Bowl roster, and immediately.

Then riddle me this! Why does almost every team allow the GM to pick the head coach? Sure the final say goes to the owner but the GM is usually allowed to pick the guy he wants to work with.

If a GM has those power, the GM is really sitting in a President role, an executive role next to the Ownership. Some teams have a position like that like the Cardinals for example. Some managers have ascended to that role like Schneider and Les Snead and Jason Licht by working as a GM without those power, side by side with the HC. They had to earn it. On most teams that is not the case. See Buffalo, Pittsburgh, KC, Denver, Jacksonville.
We are one of those team. GM and HC are on equal footing before the ownership.

Stop listening to idiotic media how Ross must do this and must do that.

And that is exactly why the Dolphins are a terrible franchise! McDaniel should have never had that kind of power to begin with. They need a real GM and give him the power to be in charge over all football operations. That’s what the Eagles and Lions have.

I mean so for Ross Is doing it right. Let gm make decision. Florio just assuming stuff now
I read the article and I have to agree. Normally Ross does the half measure - fire coach but not GM, etc. But canning the GM mid season and not the coach is the right move IMO. Just don’t give the job to someone in house. Hire your GM at the end of the season and let them fire McFade. Let them hire the next HC.

I got a notice that this post of yours was a reply to my post. But I cant see my post. Lol… was it deleted? What did I post? šŸ˜‚
I saw it. You said, ā€œI love Chris Grier and am pissed at Ross for firing him. And you want Adam Gase brought back as HC!!!ā€

What facts/evidence do you have to support this "factual claim". Apparently he has his own sports talk show so he cant be that big of a moron.

See how annoying and unnecessary this is?

Your attempt at an analogy here was quite awful. There is a big difference between someone saying ā€œTua threw 12 INT’s in one gameā€ and ā€œTua sucksā€. The former is an attempt at being factual and the latter is a clear opinion. If someone made the 12 INT claim I’d ask for proof. If someone said Tua sucks I may ask them why they think that way, but I’m not expecting people to ā€œproveā€ their opinions. I may disagree and give a counterpoint, but that’s not asking for proof. Understand the difference?

Maybe, but is he wrong on this point? McSmurf is a major part of the problem.
He’s 100% wrong.

Regardless of whether or not he thinks McD is a problem, claiming that firing Grier is a ā€œhalf-measureā€ is just straight retarded. Now, and I’ve seen no evidence of this, if Ross hires a new GM and tells him McD stays no matter what, yes that’s a half measure. He’s not doing that.

I don’t buy that. McDaniel was hired to fix Tua and build an offense that could win in January. Two years later, it’s still a finesse, timing-based system that wilts when defenses get physical. He’s built a track team, not a playoff roster. Every time the Dolphins face top-tier fronts, the offense disappears. That’s not just a ā€œrosterā€ issue — it’s a philosophy issue. McDaniel prioritizes speed and scheme over the trenches, and until that changes, this team’s ceiling stays right where it’s been.
And it doesn't really matter how much he builds the trenches, because the team culture follows from his personality, and that isn't consistent with winning in the rough and tumble game of football. Clown shows with little or no discipline or accountability don't beat tough and serious-minded teams.

The team's ceiling is determined by McDaniel's personality, which determines the culture in the locker room. The team's ceiling isn't determined by its trench play. You could build the trenches and still have 9 or 10 players in the trenches who take the field in the soft manner dictated by McDaniel's personality and the team culture.

A good trench player coached by Dan Campbell for example takes the field in an entirely different manner than the same good trench player coached by Mike McDaniel. The player is embedded in an entirely different culture in either instance.

And that is exactly why the Dolphins are a terrible franchise! McDaniel should have never had that kind of power to begin with. They need a real GM and give him the power to be in charge over all football operations. That’s what the Eagles and Lions have.

Howie Roseman ascended to the position of Vice President after ten plus years with the Eagles. He was not just given the Tsar position. He had to earn it! And certain things had to fall in place, like the departure of Chip Kelly.
Brad Holmes with the Lions works "in collaboration" with head coach Dan Campbell. His professional profile on the Lions webpage focuses on roster building and talent acquisition. The Lions have a president and CEO, Rod Wood, who is above them.
A GM's expertise is in roster building! Not coaching! They can become a Tsar, but they need to prove themselves first!
