Hey guys, its nice to finally find a fansite with somewhat intelligent conversation. Anyway, down to business:
1. Houston Texans: Reggie Bush, RB USC
No surprise here. Houston needs some instant offense,and a playmaker like Bush could make an impact with limited carries and special teams. As unlikely as it seems, don't discount a trade. I could see Houston giving up its top spot to the Jets for a few veterans and a chance to draft D'Brickashaw Ferguson.
2. New Orleans Saints: Matt Leinart, QB USC
The Saints are going to undergo a major rebuilding session, and Leinart is the ideal player to work around. Despite being upstaged in the Rose Bowl, his amazing play during the season should put him ahead of Vince Young. This definitely isn't the best situation for Leinart, however, and he may pull an Eli and demand a trade.
3. Tennesse Titans: Vince Young, QB Texas
Young has more momentum going into the draft than any other player. He will be reunited with his friend and mentor Steve McNair. If McNair stays a couple more years to tutor Young, expect big things.
4. New York Jets: D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT Virginia
The Jets have many needs, so expect them to pick the best player available. At this stage, that player is Ferguson. His athletic ability and sheer strength give him a tremendous upside. If they do draft Ferguson, look for the Jets to try and pick up a veteran running back through free agency. Since the team has so many needs, however, they may trade down to accumulate more picks.
5. Green Bay Packers: A.J. Hawk, OLB Ohio State
The days of Brett Favre being the face of Green Bay are numberes, if not over. The Packers will need a new leader, and they will choose one on the other side of the ball. Hawk has incredible speed and always seems to be where the action is. Hawk will have the same leadership role Zach Thomas has with Miami.
6. Oakland Raiders: Mario Williams, DE North Carolina State
Simply put, Williams is the best DE in the draft. Oakland has spent a lot of money to supercharge the offense, but the lack of attention toward the defense hurt them. Williams is a great pass rusher who will make an immediate impact on the Raiders.
7. San Francisco 49'ers: Vernon Davis, TE Maryland
Here's the bold prediction! The 49'ers need help everywhere, and the large, speedy Davis will give much needed help to hapless QB Alex Smith. San Francisco could very well go defense, but they can address that through free agency instead of having to wait for a rookie DE or LB to develop.
8. Buffalo Bills: Haloti Ngata, DT Oregon
Ngata is as hard to block as his name is to pronounce. A powerhouse of size and athleticism, he will get to the opposing QB enough to make Buffalo's CBs better. Watch for the Bills to take an OT later in the draft.
9. Detroit Lions: Mathias Kiwanuka, DE Boston College
No, I'm not going to make a joke about the Lions drafting another WR. The Lions biggest need is at QB, but Cutler has not yet shown that he has top ten talent. Kiwanuka will be a major upgrade on defense, and Detroit will look for a free agent QB.
10. Arizona Cardinals: DeAngelo Williams, RB Memphis
The Cardinals did draft J.J. Arrington last year, but the underrated Williams has better vision and quickness. They have the same QB problem as Detroit, and will likely address it in the same way.
11. St. Louis Rams: Tamba Hali, DE Penn State
Hali is moving his wayup the draft boards, and will be a great complement to Leonard Little on the Rams' defensive front. He is a sack artist and can get by blockers with ease. Later in the draft, St. Louis will try to add players on offense.
12. Cleveland Browns: DeMeco Ryans, LB Alabama
Ryans was a large part of Alabama's defensivce resurgence. The Browns need to upgrade on defense and will look to the speedy Ryans as an instant starter. Time will tell if forcing him to play immediately is a good idea or not.
13. Baltimore Ravens: Jimmy Williams, CB Virginia Tech
The first cornerback picked this year will also be the third Williams. He has the hitting power of a safety but the coverage ability of a corner, and will be mentored by current safety Ed Reed. Another likely choice is Michael Huff.
14. Philadelphia Eagles: LenDale White, RB USC
White is a power runner, and showed what he can do at the Rose Bowl. The Eagles have long been looking for a true running back, and the bruising White will be a great complement to the RB/WR hybrid Brian Westbrook. Chan Greenway is another option.
15. Atlanta Falcons: Michael Huff, S Texas
Atlanta's secondary needs improvement, and Huff will be the obvious choice if he falls this far. His ability to cause turnovers will get Michael Vick on the field more often. The Falcons will try him out in both the safety and cornerback positions.
16. Miami Dolphins: Jay Cutler, QB Vanderbilt
I know, surprise surprise. People seem to already have Cutler throwing for 400 yards and 5 TDs in the Senior Bowl, but this pick is a reach until that happens. Barring said performance, Cutler will be around to choose. The question is whether or not Saban wants to pick him. OT, LB, and CB are also needs that may be addressed here.
17. Minnesota Vikings: Laurence Maroney, RB Minnesota
The Vikings need a RB, and the hometown hero will be around to pick. Maroney is a strong runner with breakaway speed who will open up the passing game for Minnesota.
18. Dallas Cowboys: Winston Justice, OT USC
Justice has some personal questions, which is why he will drop this far. Dallas needs someone to protect immobile QB Drew Bledsoe, though, and Justice is a potential steal here. A trade up to get a safety or a better OT is an option as well.
19. San Diego Chargers: Santonio Holmes, WR Ohio State
Holmes is a big-play threat with great route-running abilities, and San Diego lacks a true #1 receiver. This choice will make the Chargers an offensive juggernaut who will compete for the playoffs next season.
20. Kansas City Chiefs: Brodrick Bunkley, DT Florida State
Bunkley is an underrated player with great athleticism. With starting DT Lionel Dalton becoming a free agent, the Chiefs badly need a defensive improvement to keep up with the Chargers and Broncos.
21. New England Patriots: Chad Greenway, LB Iowa
With other LBs stealing the show, Greenway will drop down the draft board. He will be a steal if the Patriots get him here, and will get the best possible mentors in Tedy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel, and Willie McGinest.
22. Denver Broncos (from Washington): Marcedes Lewis, TE UCLA
Denver hasn't had a star TE since Shannon Sharpe, and will really benefit from Lewis' blend of power and speed. Derek Hagan is another choice here.
23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Marcus McNeil, OT Auburn
McNeil is a monster of an OT who can play either side. He will open up holes for old teammate Cadillac Williams. Offense will be the main focus for the rest of the Buccaneers' draft.
24. Carolina Panthers: Derek Hagan, WR Arizona State
Carolina needs a WR to replace Muhsin Muhammad. Hagan is solid in all aspects of his game, and will give QB Jake Delhomme a great target. OT is another possibility.
25. Chicago Bears: Leonard Pope, TE Georgia
All of Chicago's worries are on the offensive side of the ball. A big TE like Pope will make an immediate impact and will open up the run. The bruising defense and run-oriented offense, paired with a TE like Pope, will make the Bears a feared power team.
26. Cincinnati Bengals: Darnell Bing, S USC
Bing is a solid safety with borderline 1st-2nd round talent, but the Bengals will reach for him. This team is the polar opposite of the Bears, as they will focus almost exclusively on defense in the rest of the draft.
27. New York Giants: Antonio Cromartie, CB Florida State
CB Will Allen is a free agent, so the Giants will take a chance on Cromartie. He was injured all of last season, but his athletic ability makes him a playmaker. With DEs Michael Strahan and Osi Umeyiora wreaking havoc up front, Cromartie will have plenty of INTs.
28. Jacksonville Jaguars: Elvis Dumervil, DE Louisville
The Jaguars have a great DT tandem, and a stud DE would significantly improve their defense. Although his size and will are questionable, Dumervil's amazing season cannot be overlooked. CB is another need, so Jacksonville may trade up to try and get a shot at Cromartie or even Jimmy Williams.
29. Denver Broncos: Eric Winston, OT Miami
Winston is still learning the position, but his talent is unquestionable. The Broncos have time to groom him into another great Denver lineman.
30. Indianapolis Colts: Thomas Howard, LB UTEP
Howard isn't the best known LB, mostly because he played at UTEP. He is very athletic and has deceptive speed. The Colts don't have any glaring needs, but problems will arise if Edgerrin James doesn't return.
31. Seattle Seahawks*: Chad Jackson, WR Florida
WRs Joe Jeruvicius and Peter Warrick are free agents, so Seattle will be looking for an explosive receiver to take their place. Jackson fits the bill perfectly, as he is a speedy big-play threat who will give Hasselbeck a downfield target.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers*: Sinorice Moss, WR Miami
The Steelers don't have any big needs, so they will grab a target for QB Ben Roethlisberger. Moss is fast and dangerous, though some wonder if has the height and power to succeed in the NFL.
