FINS SPLIT ON CARR, GREEN
A league source tells us that the Miami Dolphins front office currently is split on the question of whether to sign free-agent quarterback David Carr, or to continue to pursue a trade with the Chiefs for quarterback Trent Green.
The source also says that Carr's first choice for his first post-Texan team is the Dolphins.
And Carr could end up being the guy, given that the Miami Herald reports that the Chiefs now want a second-round pick plus another pick as compensation for the guy whom they undoubtedly will be cutting if they can't trade him.
"Trent is a Pro Bowl quarterback, he's thrown for 30,000 yards, he's a quality individual,'' Chiefs president Carl Peterson said, according to the Herald. "He's worth more than a seventh-round pick.''
But, apparently, he's not worth the $7.2 million salary that the Chiefs are scheduled to pay him this year. Thus, absent a trade, Green will be on the open market.
Our take? The pro-Carr crowd likely will win out. However, we wouldn't be surprised to see Green added to the roster when the Chiefs finally cut him loose. Green could start for a season or so while Carr learns the position better from the No. 2 spot -- a luxury he never had in Houston.
The wild card in all of this is the Lions. Though it's unlikely that they would give up a second-round pick, Green could become intrigued by the possibility of finally getting a chance to start for Mike Martz, since it was a blown out ACL (thanks to Rodney Harrison) that knocked Green out of the lineup with the Rams in 1999, and opened the door for the ascension of Kurt Warner.

Also rumors Culpepper might be finished.

CHANCES ARE THAT CULPEPPER IS DONE
As of right now, the chances (we're told) of quarterback Daunte Culpepper returning to the Dolphins in 2007 are 60-40 against.
If the Fins were somehow able to finagle both David Carr and Trent Green, the number would shoot to, in our view 99.9-0.1.
The team's only concern is that, if Culpepper is still showing ill effects of a knee problem that was exacerbated by being rushed into the lineup at the start of the 2006 season, an injury settlement would likely be owed to him. And with a $5.5 million salary due to Daunte in 2007, cutting him and stiffing him could prompt a strenuous legal challenge from Culpepper's camp.

Personally as another fan that went through a QB issue last year. I hope it gets done sooner, than later. it would be best for the organization to have a plan in place NLT after the draft IMO.

What paper is this from??

Take it for what it is worth it is from PFT but sometimes they are correct about things.
Lately they have been very good with breaking accutate news first and their sources have been reliable. They are much better now that a year ago

The Chiefs are asking way to much, Green was (is) a good QB and probably would be the right choice for our system, but a second round pick is crazy.

So these are our current options:

1. Trade a draft pick (which we finally now have a decent amount of as opposed to previous years) for a qb who no one can deny is in the last few years of his career and is one concussion away from never playing again. Or....

2 Sign a younger qb (carr) who may or may not be a great nfl qb in this league for almost no risk that will not cost us any draft picks.

Am I missing something? Can someone explain to me why there is even a question about this decision? Don't get me wrong, I like Trent Green, I would love to have him, but not if it costs us any more than a 6th round choice. Signing carr might not help us at all in a worst case scenario, but then again, he might fulfill all the potential people saw in him coming out of college, and the potential they still see in him. Carr is only 27, Green is 36. I understand the IU connection between Green and Cam Cameron but I would without a doubt take Carr in this situation if I could only have one.

I dont understand why the FO is split on Green or Carr. Its blatantly obvious that Green is not worth anywhere near a 2nd and an undisclosed pick. We better not give up anymore than a 6th. Carr wouldnt command any picks and could be signed for less and is 10 years younger. I dont think either would be a long term solution as i expect us to draft a QB regardless of which veteran QB we sign. But our FO must have something up there sleeve if they are considering Green when KC said they wanted a 2nd for him. Its all the negotiating. We offered a 7th, they want a 2nd +, so they would probably trade him for a 4th, and I dont think he is even worth a 4th...Come on Randy, no more than a 6th or sign Carr before someone else does.

dont take either of them...Draft for the future.

Why would yo ever think of taking someone no one else is interested in. especially when 1 is 37 whit a history of being hurt and the other is best decribed as joey harrington part 2

I don't understand why we wouldn't go after Carr instead of Green. Man I just wish we'd have a franchise QB for once so we don't have to continue talking about this every year

Absolutely agree. Good or bad I hope this thing concludes quickly because then we'll really know if MuelCam is different than Nicky Sabs or just the new maniac dictators in control.
