Question for all of you guys that work wonders with research on sports/NFL issues. Me and a guy from work were arguing yesterday about where the most Players in the NFL come from. I of course was saying Florida, and that the level of competition even in highschool is much higher in Florida. This guy is from VA, and he's saying it's better in VA, and more products come out of VA, he bases this mostly on the fact that one of the schools here was ranked #1 in the country for a year or two, and had the #1 player coming out of highschool in the country a few years back(Ronald Curry). He also said Texas was much bigger of a football state and produced more NFL products than Florida. I was just wondering if anyone knew, or knew how to find out the #'s of which states produce the most NFL players.

Thanx

california is another hot bed...

and i think a lot of guys come out of GA.

I would say that Florida is probably the biggest hotbed in US for football talent. Florida, Miami, and Florida St are all top colleges... USC has managed to nab a few top FL recruits - Dwayne Jarrett and Mike Williams.

Florida by far... Ray Lewis, Santana Moss, Clinton Portis, Sean Taylor, Najeh Davenport, Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Jeremy Shockey, Warren Sapp, Phillip Buchanon, and Antrelle Role (I'm sure I'm leaving out a lot more) are all current nfl ex-cane players only. This list doesn't even include FSU, CFU, UF... Even in the 90's when the cowboys dominated, players like Emmit Smith (Florida), Michael Irvin (Miami), Deon Sanders (FSU), Russel Maryland (Miami), Kevin Williams (Miami) more than substantiate the point that Florida is by far the leader in talent. Additionally, there is a high school game played every year (I think its called CaliFlorida bowl or FloridaCali bowl)that encompasses the best Football players from the state of FLA vs Cali. and FLA always beats them. Finally if your boy's not convinced after all that then ask him why there is an annual game each year that consists of USA vs FLA (I think that's called rotorbowl or something like that/ i'm sure you can google it up).

Correction in spelling. That's Daunte Culpepper...Sorry Daunte!

Florida definitely...but the Virgina Beach area "Tidewater"?? area produces alot of talent in such a small area when compared to the sunshine state. I'd say the quality of talent is much better in the state of Florida. The best NFL players out of the New England area where I'm from over the past 15 yrs would be either Pete Kendall or Rob Konrad....and that aint sayin' much

It depends on what you mean. If you mean college players, than Florida probably wins. However, if you are talking about High School athletes then I think Texas and California might have Florida beat. Heck, Justin Peelle, D.J. Williams, Ken Dorsey and others all played with or against my high school team and then moved out of state to go to college. Depends on your criteria.

Nasty

Doesnt matter high school or college Florida has been producing the best football talent for the last 20 years. Before that it was Texas and before that it was western pa, ohio the midwest and california. Until the early eighties the big name college programs OK, AL, NEB OH ST MI TX went into Florida (especially south florida) and plucked all the blue chip talent leaving the Florida schools the leftovers. When Howard Schnellinberger took over at the U of M he drew a line across the state from Tampa to the east coast and said "if I can win the recruiting war south of this line we will win championships"

I suggest an old SI article called "running in the muck"
