All of us are making the big mistake of assuming that Culpepper will return promptly and lead us to the super bowl. Have we REALLY adressed the situation of Joey Harrington at qb?? I dont think we have.

Here is the thing: If we wouldnt have snagged Cpep, most of us would be up in arms at the idea of Joey as our qb...yet we think he will be here to ride the bench. This is not true. Cpep says he will be ready, but so does everyone else. The guy's knee might as well have fallen off is leg, he is severely injured and will def. not be there the first few games, and knowing this type of injury we cant say we KNOW when he will return.

Harrington had 2 options really, The Benglas and us...he didnt go to cincy knowing that would be career suicide with palmer there.

I know what you are saying, "Palmer had a very similar injury and will be out also" Except Palmer had a hell of a year last year while Cpep looked awful and threw 5 picks to the same Bengals D (I live in Cincy and the d they got is OVERRATED and slow, cpep just SUCKED). Sure, I am a homer, and I say that was just a fluke...but how do we explain BRAD JOHNSON not only playing well but leading the team to like 6 straight wins???

My point is, the jury is out on Culpepper. His injury is a problem and we will need to confirm last year was a fluke. Until then, Joey is our guy....

In other words, Joey Harrington will be our starter when the deal is made, how do you REALLY feel about that?

While I'm a little nervous about it, as it's a gamble, we don't have a whole lot of better options. Maddox is not an option (that scares me 100x more than Joey); Collins won't go to a team unless he knows he's the #1 guy and Nick won't make that promise to him; Martin has his own ??? I know some guys are high on him, but he's had a number of up and down games. When he's hot, he looked great. But when he cooled off, he looked horrible. I think a rookie QB out of college is not a practical option; and our current b/u's are a huge risk too. Harrington is the best risk with potential upside. He only will probably need to fill in a few games before DC comes back, and if it's more, well then at least Harrington has starting experience and will get a shot through a decent program. Best available option in my opinion. Would I want him to be starting all our games, no. But if DC isn't able to come back this year, I'd rather have Harrington start than Lemon, Maddox or Martin.

"Give the guy a chance!"--Nick Saban on Ronnie Browns slow start.

Its incredible to me how many threads judge a player before he steps on our field. We can look to last season all we want, the truth is these players in question were not Miami Dolphins uniforms last year. Especially Harrington...he was a Lion.......even Barry coudnt win games there. They are playing a new season and we should be reserved in the injury progression and who will start. If we need to speculate to have something to talk about then play Harrington until the inury is completely healed and not a minute before. What was our next choice.....Maddox? Whoever starts is O.K. with me.....Saban has put us in a position to have options. Sounds good to me.

This season will be great.

Im good with it. Lets give him some time with a real organization, good coaching staff, and a good supporting cast. Stranger things have happened than a former #1 QB making a comeback with a second team. Its been done in the NFL way too many times in the past. Besides...not like there are many otions other than JH out there.

I don't expect Culpepper to be ready until Oct. Also I don't expect the Phins to see the AFC champ game until 2007 season. So landing Harington is a big plus. Temp starter or backup, he is better than what we had.

How do you explain Culpepper going from 6 touchdowns and 8 picks to 6 touchdowns and 4 picks? They were starting to improve already, and they changed a lot. When Culpepper was in, they threw a lot. When Johnson was in, they ran more and had Johnson manage the game.

I am perfectly happy with Joey harrington coming in here. NOBODY played hard for that kid in Detroit. He had great talent at WR but when you have no time to throw the football, you won't have too much success. Detroit marked him the franchise and started him out of the gates which sometimes isnt always the best way to handle new young qb's. Lets not forget, he was a early first round pick for a reason. He has the goods to be a great QB. And coming into a new situation where everyone plays hard and it is a team first mentallity, harrington can rebuild his value and be trade bait maybe next year or the year after. So why not have Joey as our backup and potential starter till culpepper is healthy??

Name me any 1-2 QB punch that is better in the NFL as it stands right now:evil:

How do I feely about it? I gus we will be better at QB now. Seriously, we finally have some talent behind the center. The phins have not had a legitimate starter since Mario left ( or was made to leave)>

Is this Dr. James Andrews? Because he's the only 1 that knows the situation. Saban also said that it wouldn't be unreasonable for DC to start opening day. If you have some info that the coach doesn't have, just let him know.

Cpep looked awful and threw 5 picks to the same Bengals D

That same bengals D had the most picks in the NFL by far. They had 5 picks 3 times last year.

Harrington had 2 options really, The Benglas and us...he didnt go to cincy knowing that would be career suicide with palmer there.

He also had scheduled a visit to Denver, who was willing to give a 3rd or 4th round pick but he canceled b/c he wanted to be a fin. Also, it's only a 2 year deal with a chance for him to opt out after 1 year in Mia and Cincy offered a 1 year deal. I wouldn't call that carreer suicide.

but how do we explain BRAD JOHNSON not only playing well but leading the team to like 6 straight wins???

Lots of things. A offense that fit him better with all the short passes. An improved run game, and improvment of the D.

I've posted before that if we got Joey Harrington and that if he started 4 or 5 games, but not the whole season I'd be happy. I truly feel that Harrington is a backup QB in the NFL, yes I know that a change of scenery may change everyhting for him and I hope it does, but I'm skeptical. However, this move sort of makes my sense of worry about Culpepper's ability for all of next season, no I'm not saying he'll be out the whole season don't get me wrong, but what I'm saying is that maybe Saban & Co. have a little doubt about Culpepper themselves. More than likely, I believe that Saban & Co. are just being smart and are getting a very good and capable backup, which smart coaching decisions aren't a thing we Fin fans have been overly treated with the last few years. I think that Harrignton was definetely the best QB left in the FA pool, and I'm happy with him as the backup QB, and if worst comes to worst and Culpepper is out the whole season, do I really feel that Joey Harrington is not at least as good as Gus Frerotte? The way I see it (and maybe I'm wrong) the Miami Dolphins have upgraded the QB position this year, regardless.

I'm happy with Harrington. He played with malcontents in Detroit in a very dysfunctional situation from the top down. Plus they have a losing mentality and tradition. I am not sure it was ever a fair opportunity for him there.

Harrington should not be much if any of a drop off from Gus. Plus, Joey was the best option out there right now. He has started a ton of games in this league. If he doesn't blow games for us, that's what we want. That's the backup QB mentality. Hopefully he will get that.

While JH may not have been real impressive so far to say the least. He has proven that he can show flashes at times, even with a far inferior team. So to look at it that way, he still has upside and potential. No one has ever questioned that. On the other hand, Cleo is a complete unknown, and Maddox stunk it up with a super bowl winner. I think we are far better off with JH. And its not like we are handing him over the fin franchise or anything. At the worst, he just needs to be a serviceable QB for portion of the season. We dont want to go into this season with a complete unknown or a has been at the QB position. As it has been said over and over again, sometimes a change of scenery does wonders for a QB.

Again no one, not even the die hard Detroit fans have ever questioned his physical abilities at playing the QB position.

the first time the Jets and Dolphins play, it will be Ramsey v. Harrington. Harrington should do much better down in Miami. I always thought Culpepper was overrated and will probably not start for some time.
