I see these threads like, "okay, this game will tell us whether this is a different team or the same old dolphins...." yada yada yada.

The reality is THIS: In the NFL, most teams go through peaks and valleys, and can look great and look like crap. Fins might lay an egg in Detroit- that game is no or less meaningful than last week's game or next week's game.

If you want to jump on the bandwagon, or jump off the cliff, feel free. The reality is that we should try to enjoy the ride and hopefully have enough awareness to avoid all these fatalistic musings about what this team is or is not based on a particular game.

The body of evidence makes the following clear:

This is a team playing well that has tremendous upside if its young QB keeps progressing steadily like he has. Every week does not have to be an improvement, but we should hopefully look for signs that the ship is on the right course. I think it is, so I can live with a sub-par performance without condemning this group to the dung heap. This is a playoff team. If they don't get there at year's end, then let's talk.

Exactly the way I feel.

Five stars.

The drama queens putting this game or that game as THE game which will show Miami as legit -- if they can't see that Miami's arrow is pointing UP and that RT is the real deal (even a modicum of weapons + protection and he's balling big time) then they are not that insightful. Hence, shouldn't be given much credence.

Half of them are just wanting Miami to fail in a closely matched game so that they can whine and cry the rest of the year about how terrible RT is, lol.

Right. See your passive-aggressive prissiness, drama posters! And I raise you an RT ACE.

I can sympathize with the people who are skeptical because of the way this team has played the past decade, but little doubt this is the best squad I have seen since my years of following them. The overall team record when Tannehill is being sufficient is impeccable, we are great when that happens.

I wish there was a VIP free day once a year, so I could check it out and see if it's worth it. Even if the free day just allowed you to view threads but not post in them.

You have been here for 5 years bro, just pay 5 bucks for the month and check it out.

As AFC said try it for $5.00 for three months. Got nothing to lose, plus you help support the site, get a great conversation in the VIP forum, your own VIP lounge, your own VIP Ladies Lounge which is top shelf!

Well I'm sorry that the level of patience has wore thin we some.of us old timers but in case you haven't check, we haven't won the super bowl in 41 YEARS. Maybe you can cut us some slack. Do you guys think that you're better fans just cause you're not worry about losing tomorrow? I'm rooting for our team as hard as anyone else here. Some people are already making excuses and we haven't even played yet. If the team is so different (like I'm hoping they are)then you guys have nothing to worry about.

I hear what you're saying, the thing for me though is Det and Buff are very similar and on the short week I'll have so much more confidence for the Buffalo game if we can show our offense can be at least competent vs Detroit's defense. Have like 10 yards passing in the first half again, or like 7 minutes time of possession again, or get shut out again, and we'll have to go back to the drawing board, which is not good at the best of times but especially on a short week.

The litmus test for me is whether the offense can be effective against a tough dline. That's it.

They did it to themselves with all the eggs they've laid over the years. They'll be the same old Dolphins until they start winning when it counts.

Here's my Psych 101 view of the situation. The "Detroit is a litmus test" viewpoint stems from a psychological need to "steal" a game that the Dolphins aren't expected to win in order to overcome the disappointment of the loss to Green Bay. A win versus Detroit restores equilibrium to the universe and puts the Dolphins on track to be 9-4 heading into the game at New England.

NO. Freakin no way. That's only the litmus test as to whether or not we have a real OL yet.

That's ALL that is.

The offense has already proven that it can DOMINATE if giving halfway decent protection to RT.

Since the offense has already showed it can dominate if RT is kept fairly clean, then it's up to the OL to show that it can provide protection and holes for running game against good DLs.

Which, the interior of the Miami OL has been owned all year by good DLs. So we'll see.

Don't act like this is some litmus test for RT and the offense as a whole, though.

Because it's not.

Litmus test, shmitmus test. Go out there and beat these guys down. It's always said, winning cures everything. So does alcohol for that matter.

Detroits litmus test.

Can it stop the read option?

Can it stop OV/Wake? Thinking not.
