I notice alot of people who seem to disrespect Pennington. Most of this comes with the term "noodle arm" and implies that his lack of arm strength will not only hinder our passing game, but allow teams to stack the box and therefore present a problem for our rushing attack.(And it will be an ATTACK...Ricky baby!)
Here's what I say to that..............
Good luck to any team that wants to stack the box on us. Pennington will eat them up. It's completely ridiculous IMHO, to feel that Pennington's lack of top notch arm strength lends itself to allowing teams to stack the box on us and hence, smother our run game.
Chad Pennington has the ability to kill a stacked box with his excellent decision making, play action passing, top notch accuracy, and defense reading skills. If youre going to play single safety vs. Chad Pennington you better damn well hope receivers arent going to get any seperation. Because if they do, he is definately going to kill you with intermediate throws, and you can bet your *** he can and will hit you with a deep ball.
He might have to put more air under his longer throws, but they will be where his receiver can catch it. And if youre singled up out there, you better hope the receiver dosent make a play on the ball as well. This is why I especially like having Wilford out there. Well, if he gets it together and starts playing up to that contract. Nevertheless, he is the type of guy that if you stack the box and single up on him, Pennington will loft a nicely thrown pass downfield to him. And if we are in the red zone and youre stacking the box, Pennington will flat out kill you with the fade.
Nah, you dont want to be playing single safety all day on Chad. He is too smart, too accurate, and too experienced to not destroy it.
Seriously, some of you guys talk as if he is Travaris Jackson or something out there. You can get away with playing single safety coverage on him all day. I ENCOURAGE and WELCOME teams to play coverage that way against Chad. They wont though. Teams arent that foolish.
Also, let me add that some people seem to have the impression that play action passing only means deep balls to Ginn. Nah, the intermediate routes can be VERY effective in the play action game, especially if youre stacking the box. Chad can and will kill people with his play action abilities. Mostly it will be with the more intermediate stuff, but dont be shocked when he indeed does connect on a deep ball here and there.
And yea, I think our run game will give a VERY NICE BALANCE to our offense. I also think that it is CHAD PENNINGTON's QBing skills that will allow this run game to flurrish. Teams will have to respect his ability to beat them throwing the ball. His play is going to do wonders for our running attack.
One last point for those of you that somehow think Chad's arm might hurt our run game........well, just go ask Curtis Martin about that. Because, you know.....he never ran with any power. Chad never lead a dominant run game to an AFC title game that his team wouldve won if it werent for Herm the bewb Edwards. That wasnt Pennington.
Noodle on that!!!!:hi5:
