I notice alot of people who seem to disrespect Pennington. Most of this comes with the term "noodle arm" and implies that his lack of arm strength will not only hinder our passing game, but allow teams to stack the box and therefore present a problem for our rushing attack.(And it will be an ATTACK...Ricky baby!:woot:)

Here's what I say to that..............

Good luck to any team that wants to stack the box on us. Pennington will eat them up. It's completely ridiculous IMHO, to feel that Pennington's lack of top notch arm strength lends itself to allowing teams to stack the box on us and hence, smother our run game.

Chad Pennington has the ability to kill a stacked box with his excellent decision making, play action passing, top notch accuracy, and defense reading skills. If youre going to play single safety vs. Chad Pennington you better damn well hope receivers arent going to get any seperation. Because if they do, he is definately going to kill you with intermediate throws, and you can bet your *** he can and will hit you with a deep ball.

He might have to put more air under his longer throws, but they will be where his receiver can catch it. And if youre singled up out there, you better hope the receiver dosent make a play on the ball as well. This is why I especially like having Wilford out there. Well, if he gets it together and starts playing up to that contract. Nevertheless, he is the type of guy that if you stack the box and single up on him, Pennington will loft a nicely thrown pass downfield to him. And if we are in the red zone and youre stacking the box, Pennington will flat out kill you with the fade.

Nah, you dont want to be playing single safety all day on Chad. He is too smart, too accurate, and too experienced to not destroy it.

Seriously, some of you guys talk as if he is Travaris Jackson or something out there. You can get away with playing single safety coverage on him all day. I ENCOURAGE and WELCOME teams to play coverage that way against Chad. They wont though. Teams arent that foolish.

Also, let me add that some people seem to have the impression that play action passing only means deep balls to Ginn. Nah, the intermediate routes can be VERY effective in the play action game, especially if youre stacking the box. Chad can and will kill people with his play action abilities. Mostly it will be with the more intermediate stuff, but dont be shocked when he indeed does connect on a deep ball here and there.

And yea, I think our run game will give a VERY NICE BALANCE to our offense. I also think that it is CHAD PENNINGTON's QBing skills that will allow this run game to flurrish. Teams will have to respect his ability to beat them throwing the ball. His play is going to do wonders for our running attack.

One last point for those of you that somehow think Chad's arm might hurt our run game........well, just go ask Curtis Martin about that. Because, you know.....he never ran with any power. Chad never lead a dominant run game to an AFC title game that his team wouldve won if it werent for Herm the bewb Edwards. That wasnt Pennington.

Noodle on that!!!!:woot::hi5:

Great Post, Pennington is the best QB weve had here since Marino by FARRR

I don't know if we would've said that a couple of years ago.....

...but I agree.

It used to amaze me when we would play the Jets and Chad would launch these really high bombs, lobs, and I would be thinking that there's no way they catch that and that one of our guys doesn't pick that off....but their guy would always catch it. I would be like..."how the f--- did they catch that" "how did we not pick that off" "I don't freakin' believe it", etc, etc, etc.

He definitely is more of a touch passer, which could be a good thing for us right now. Don't make bonehead plays, be smart with the ball and keep us in games.... for now.

the main reason ppl bash penny is completely based on bias preconceptions because he played for the jets.. everyone in miami will love him after he does on to others as he has done on to us in the past

I dont know why so many people hate on WVdolphan, everytime I read one of his posts, it always makes sense to me. yeah hes a big anti-beck guy, but who can blame him...Beck just doesnt fit here...

With how often you talk about Pennington and this 'killing' he is capable of, it makes me wonder if he has more of a 'cannon arm' than we are led to believe:lol: But seriously, I'm thrilled to have Chad P. in Miami. I used to hate his guts because he played for the Jets, but to me, he was always a warrior and the epitome of an unselfish teammate, earning him great respect in my eyes (because we all KNOW how much my respect means to him:wink:). I think we could surprise a lot of teams with Pennington behind center. Go Phins:woot:

Agree 100%. As for Beck, I think he has a place in this league, just not on this team. He just isn't a good fit to lead this team and offense. It's like taking a talented cover corner and expecting him to excel in a defense heavy with zone coverages. Sometimes players just need the right scenery and/or system to flourish. I wish him the best of luck, and am ready to move into the Era of the Chads!

Thanks bro. It would be really nice to hear that coming from someone who is a big pro-Beck person though.

But, lets try to not turn this thread into one about me. I do appreciate the comment but, dont want people using what you just said as a reason to make this thread about me personally.

The original post speaks for itself. Its a good post IMHO and Id like to hear someone who has been downplaying Pennington's arm and suggesting teams will stack the box on us try and refute it.

Please guys, lets not bring Beck into this. I never mentioned his name in this post and Id really like to have discussions without always bringing him into it. Again, this thread isnt about me. I dont mind discussing Beck(obviously) but, I would like to leave him out of this thread.

Sorry bout that WVdolphan, didn't mean to get off topic. Just something I've been thinking for a bit over the past few days or so.

Anyway, I too don't see why there is so much crap being thrown at Pennington (are all these naysayers just a bunch of monkeys? just kidding guys!). Seriously, the guy has heart, he's a competitor to the end, brings veteran leadership and intangibles to a young offense. After the players we were forced to endure over the years since Marino went, I really do believe that Penny is the best of that bunch. Fiedler had heart, but don't think he quite had Chad's skill set, and C-Pepper was never the same after his injury. Penny is the creme of the crop in my eyes. Oh, and if anything, I don't see his (perceived) lack of arm strength as a problem. If I remember correctly he used to carve up our defense twice a season year after year with those 'lame ducks' of his. I personally don't care if he does underhand tosses to the receivers, just so long as he doesn't throw many picks, avoids fumbling, and makes smart decisions under pressure. Really, so long as the ball reaches the receiver effectively, and hopefully in a spot allowing them room to run after the catch, who cares how fast the ball got there.

Awesome post, I completely agree with everything you said in there, I couldn't have said it better myself.

Great post VW,

but you have to admit, pennington has been playing well, but Beck is really the superior talent. Pennington will do well as a back up though as Beck leads this team to the playoffs!!!

I don't think I could cringe harder if Paris Hilton held a press conference announcing she was a born-again virgin:lol: Ah sarcasm, the voice of America!

Exactly. And he excels at that. Alot of his intermediate throws are made so perfectly hitting a guy in stride, that even if a defender is basically right with him, it still allows the receiver an opportunity to gain a nice chunk after the catch.

And this is the exact kinda thing that if a team is stacking the box against us they can get beaten badly with. Deep balls arent the only kind that can go for 50+ yard passing scores. If the box is stacked, we go play action, Ricky has been tearing it up, the defense bites on the play fake, Ginn gets seperation from his man on a basic slant, and the safety is too far up......guess what.........Pennington can and will lay it in there perfectly and Teddy Ginn certainly has the speed to take it the distance if the safety bit too far on the play fake. Hell, I dont like another DBs chances of catching Ginn that was playing the other side of the field, even if he has the angle.

Its just too risky for a defense to stack the box on Pennington. Noodle arm or not. He is too smart, too accurate, and just plain good. He is definately not Travaris Jackson. You just cant play against him like he is some scrub out there.

Even when he was with the jets, I noticed that Pennington threw some of the nicest spirals I have ever seen. I remember that long pass to Coles in that sunday night game that killed us. Hindsight, that was a great throw.
