Food for thought...

I think Wilford has been pinned inappropriately thus far by his coaches. He is not a # 1 receiver...he is the kind of guy that needs to be trained to run fades in the red zone, short hooks for 7 yd completions on 3rd and 6....a possession receiver, a big target. He is not a big play caliber guy, and when people officially absolve him of those expectations he can find a solid niche in the league, and hopefully on our team. The way I see our receiving corps right now, Ginn Jr can be an OJ McDuffie type, and Hagan or Wilford can be a Gadsden-type. Except I don't see anyone matching this catch...

What people forget is that Wilford had a below average training camp last year in Jacksonville (from what they have said about him).. But he really turned it on during the season..

Garrard was #1 for QB's in the NFL for 3rd down passer rating last season (yes, even higher than Brady)-- and that had A LOT to do with Wilford as Wilford was a primary 3rd down target.

Wilford seems like the classic case of a player not putting it all on the line in camp/practice, but then plays well in games when it counts.

thats tru alot of people had very high hopes for this guy... hopefully he can make the plays that are needed... plus i dont think hell b so much involved in the offense which i guess is a good thing

I think people thought he was a top tier reciever. He first came to my attention while I was on a job in Pittsburgh. The jocks there on a local show were really hyped to get him but, it was mainly his blocking they were slobbering about, not his hands.

anyone who thought Wilford was a #1 wr was only fooling themselves. hes a #3 guy on most teams, and nothing more than a red zone threat and maybe a slot possession guy.

Wow, we now have two 6'4" receivers........BIG boys.......coach'em up Sparano!! The things i have read about London have been encouraging.

Yeah but he's not even a 2.....and it's disappointing that the organization brought him into to be a number 1 or 2 guy and he's probably not even going to be the 3. I never thought he was a number 1 but with the quality of WR's on this team outside of Ted Ginn who himself is probably a 2 i figured Wilford at least for the time being would be the 1.

wilford is a waste of god given size.. the only reason he has any production what so ever is because of his height.. i really wish he could do more than be just a body...

I see him more of a slot/possession type. He may not be a #1, but he's a great target, especially on 3rd down/Red Zone possessions.

I figured that he would have been a nice complimentary to Ginn and still think that he'll probably get that role sometime during the season because Hagan will likely be invisible.

Yeah i think people wanted BIG numbers quick but he is learning a new system too. I think we ran a very very basic offense in preseason im sure we have plays that Wilford is the primary target and he has size and we need size in the red zone it takes pressure off our TE and our RB.

Slot/possession type? :shakeno: No way! He doesnt have the skills required to be a slot. Those guys are very quick, shifty, headsy type players who run very accurate routes. They are also the teams most consistant receivers, who read the defense and get open in creases or holes in the defense.

Not to mention the hands of a slot receiver are those that are CONSISTENT! And from everything I have seen and heard, that is Wilford's biggest problem, catching the ball consistantly!

I wasnt expecting him to be our #1 receiver or a pro bowler. What I'm expecting from him is big plays on 3 downs and easy red zone touchdowns.
