Great article actually. Clean house. The current GM and HC are too toxic.

"Sometimes in sports, an owner must make a grand gesture to fans and free agents alike that their organization is going to do things the right way and have strong leadership. And even though Coach Philbin and GM Ireland may have know little of the forces at play here, one could easily argue that they should have. Either way, their titles alone make them the obvious fall guys"

Joe should have known what was going on.

He makes a good point that from a business/financial point of view, firing both makes sense. He also suggests that Ross should rely on his new advisory council to guide him in making new FO and HC decisions. That's probably a good idea.

For the FO, we need a personnel guy ...someone with his nose buried in college stats and tapes ...someone that will get on the phone and talk to coaches about players. And that person needs to understand that while a team can withstand character flaws, players in that category need role models with leadership skills in the locker room to keep them from going too far. I'm not suggesting we need to turn the locker room into a monastery, but it can't be "animal house" either. There must be some balance. I'm not sure Ireland ever understood that.

Whoever is our next HC , that person needs to be able to balance the ability to instill fire and determination with an ability to maintain discipline and control. He has to maintain awareness of what's going on in the locker room. He has to have an ability to reign in problem behaviors without squashing a player's desire to play.

I'd also like staff hires to be a bit more collaborative as a safeguard against irresponsible nepotism and cronyism. I understand that from a coaches perspective it's important to work with people you trust, but from a team's perspective it's equally important to have competent and knowledgeable coaches working with players.

Just goes to show you the extent this situation has went national and international. Looks like even financial people have gotten into it.

Exactly. And that is why team plays like it does, he is not a strong presence and doesn't command the locker room. Way to passive a leader it seems.

Because I go to Forbes for ALL my football news and opinions!

You're not dismissing the article because of the source, you're dismissing it because you disagree with the content. Had a HOF player or a coach with an impressive pedigree said the same thing, you'd have dismissed it just as easily.

To be fair, I initially dismissed the article because of the source. (even though I agree with it)

Forbes is a terrible magazine but I 100% agree with firing everybody.

 Gotta love the notion of assuming for the sake of assuming.
