We need a player personal guy who can choose good players and coaches. Look at the top teams in the NFL and they all have Good GM (AJ Smith, Scott Pioli) who can draft/choose free agents. The GM has to be in charge in the decision of choosing a new coach. If we are going to this right let not do it backwards. I want Ron Wolf or Scott Pioli here. I believe Wayne can get one. We are going to have some trying times but a good GM can build this team strong.

What??...No Mueller??....

I think he's a very respectable GM, and should be retained. The last thing we need to do is go throw a bunch of money at Pioli, and have him reject the offer, then where would we be?? Mueller would bolt, and we'd be in further doo doo than we currently are. I say keep Mueller, and let him do his job once and for all. Saban had him completely handcuffed down here. Mueller is a highly qualified GM, and I don't think going after piloi is worth the risk...

PHINZ RULE!!!

Someone like Scott Pioli would be an absolute dream, but the truth is, it's probably not gonna happen. Your ruling out Randy Mueller completely, who could honestly be a pretty good GM if we give him the chance to be. GM is different then coaching. If we went after Scott Pioli, the only one benefiting would be, Scott Pioli. Because he probably wouldnt leave NE, but he'd pretend he was to get even more money from Kraft and the patriots to stay. He'd make out like a bandit, even if he never really intended to leave.

:yeahthat:

The Dolphins need to let Mueller makes the player decisions and hire a person to just be the Headcoach.

Ron Wolf is retired and staying that way. I do agree that I'd rather see a GM be the strongman in the organization. There are very few Belichicks that can coach their way to multiple Superbowls. Even JJ won his Superbowls through his eye for talent, not his X's and O's ability.

My choices in order are:
1) AJ Smith - He's the star GM in the league. Just look at what the Chargers have done over the last few years. All their talent is young and they look like they could be the next dynasty if Schotty doesn't pull one of his trademark playoff chokes.
2) Scott Pioli - New England, nuff said.
3) Randy Mueller - Quality guy and he's already here.

Randy Mueller helped build the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints. Much of their stars were brought in by Mueller. Now you want to get rid of him without giving him a chance??

Totally agree. Mueller should have had full GM power ever since Wanny had to relinquish it!

Nothing wrong with Mueller and wouldnt mind him. On the flipside if we can get the best lets do it. I have faith in Wayne. He got Jimmy Johnson when he was the hottest coach out there. He got Saban when Saban turned down every NFL team looking for a coach wanted him. Unfortunately it didnt work out but you cant blame Wayne for that. Wayne has of way of getting what he wants and I believe he can get Pioli if Pioli is willing to listen.

I agree we need a good GM(and I'm not sure Mueller can't be that guy) but I don't think he should be solely in charge of picking the new coach. Like Wayne said, that creates a weird situation where the GM is undisputedly superior to the coach.

What's wrong with Randy Mueller? I'd vote to retain him, but:

Perhaps we should unravel the Saban/Mueller relationship as we did the
Wannestedt/Spielman one. Who brought in Bennie Anderson, LJ Shelton(yes, I know that he was a pretty good guard, but he was a lousy tackle), the draft picks? (quite frankly, mainly Bennie Anderson- what a turd).

Mueller will probably come forth and defend himself, Saban will probably
talk (lie, lips move, take your pick). This could turn out to be an interesting story.

That was all Saban.

So far Mueller was forced to be a Yes man.

Here! Here! Mueller has a nice track record. Let him go to work. Let's find a coach who can work with him.
