I know he didn't do a lot when he was here, but he did show some promise. Alas, we cut him to bring in Larry Johnson of all people. So then Sheets goes to the CFL, tears it up, and is named the Grey Cup MVP.

He got signed for what is believed to be pretty minimal risk (small guaranteed money). But I guarantee he is just as good as Lamar Miller. Oh well, another opportunity gone...

Nothing's gone until he proves more than camp fodder.

He's not as good as Lamar Miller. I watch a lot of CFL and he's a speed back built for the CFL. He's not an NFL RB. No loss here. Heck, he's not even the best RB in the CFL. John Avery had a nice CFL career too. Similar guys. Nuff said.

C'mon, he's just as good as Lamar "Don't breathe on me" Miller, plus he has excellent hands. He would be a great third down back in the NFL. He's not Darren Sproles, but he's much better than Marcus Thigpen.

Please don't tell me you think Jon Cornish is a better back than Kory Sheets. And finally John Avery's CFL career was fair, not great, and certainly nothing like Sheets'.

We don't need another small back. Signing a power back for short yardage is pivotal.

Hopefully they release Daniel Thomas.

I liked Sheets coming out, that ACL sort of snapped his quickness. Don't think he's an NFL caliber back at this point, there's better options out there no need to be so somber over this.

 That's how far we've fallen. Ronnie Brown and Kory Sheets.

:brewskis: I was hoping someone would enjoy that comment...

P.S. Although, its even sadder that Ronnie Brown would tremendously help us out of the backfield in 3 different ways (power running, blitz pick up, and catching out of the backfield), and I was only joking when I made that original comment.

Sorry GasPed but it's true. And it pains me to say it because as a B.C. Lions fan, Cornish has killed my team time and time again. But he is better and MUCH better at breaking tackles. I would even take Andrew Harris, who plays behind an awful blocking unit in B.C. ahead of Sheets. Sheets is not an "instinctive" runner nor a tackle breaker if the blocking isn't there. He played behind a good line in Saskatchewan and when he hits the hole with speed, in open space on the big CFL field, he is effective. You are correct about his hands, they are good but let's be honest, is a soon-to-be 29 year old RB who might be a third down option really a "loss" at this point?

John Avery was awesome his first couple of years in Toronto. He fell out of favour, probably because of his contract whining or just whining in general. Whatever the reason, they stopped using him as much but make no mistake he was every bit what sheets was recently in Saskatchewan.

Miami will have better RB options this offseason, and I would really like to see Miller behind a better blocking unit. I think you'll see a very productive RB.

Oh, you're a Lions fan! Well, then, everything you say I agree with. ;)

Seriously though, I agree with your assessment of Cornish's power, and especially his instincts at following blocks. He gets the most out of what he can see, and behind the Stamps o-line (when healthy), that can be a lot.

I love A Harris. Little guy with heart and dare I say it, NFL-like quickness (almost). Ratio busters like Cornish and Harris are so hard to come by, and when they perform like they have, I agree, they are more valuable and better to have on your team than Sheets, by far. But they both lack that burst, that explosion that you need as a small NFL back. Kory Sheets has that - so does Lamar Miller (if he could just fall forward instead of backwards/sideways when someone touches him). But I do agree, Sheets is probably not a huge loss - I just enjoy pumping up CFL prospects from time-to-time on the board. ;)

Now if we can just keep Lulay upright this year, maybe we can make the big show?

Ah, so you're a Lions fan too. Very nice. You are spot on with all your analysis, very much agreed on both Cornish and Harris as to where they excel and where they are short of NFL pedigree.

It's hard to watch both of my teams with QBs that are under constant duress. Lol. Yes, Lulay is just fine with protection. Hopefully there's a full season of that and some more Korey Williams down field.

Anyone else in the CFL catch your eye with NFL opportunity these days?

As I remember, Kory Sheets did nothing in a Miami Dolphins uniform. Should I miss him?

Miller as thoroughly average and nothing special as he is , is much better than Sheets.

It will be interesting to see what Korey Williams can do this year, now that Moore is gone. I think he could have breakout year, but as you know, in the CFL it all rides on the QB.

Among the FA's, there's no one that catches my eye in the skill positions in the CFL, sadly. I was keen to see how Chris Matthews developed last year, because I thought he showed some real promise as a rookie, but he did nothing (mainly due to injuries). I'd love to say we should take a flyer on him, but you'd need to work him out to convince yourself he's really recovered. Other than that, no one. At the other positions, I think that guys like Josh Bourke or Alex Hall could definitely help an NFL team, but there are no Cam Wake's out there (there'll never be another Cam Wake ;) ).
