I am getting annoyed at media implying we signed Foster to be our #1 back, and that we are assuming he will be the Foster of old. I listen to Fox Sports Radio all day, and there is recurring clip from the morning show where they make fun of Miami for thinking they are getting the Foster of old, and its a for gone conclusion he is the starter.

I am pretty sure Foster was an insurance signing. The dollars support this theory. I think this is Jay's job to lose, and will be given every chance to be our starting RB. If Foster discovers the fountain of youth and wins the job so be it, but I don't think anyone is counting on that. The most attractive quality of Foster is his ability to catch the ball and help in pass protection. This is Jay's weakest part of his game. Fe is also a power guy, as if Jay gets injured we have no other power back.
What do you guys think?

I try to go by consensus - too many talking heads with clueless opinions. In this case, consensus seems to be the same as the majority view here . . . Foster's ultimate value depends on if and when he's injured. I doubt anyone expects a 25yo Foster and his comments hint he knows he won't be the feature back. I agree, his money indicates he'll be 2nd in Gase's rotation scheme. Good signing.

In today's NFL there are very few featured backs. He's just a running back in our committee. Who really knows who'll be toting the rock come week 6 or 12 or 14. RB's get hurt very often these days. I laugh at the fantasy guys who leave the draft bragging about their RB's. I bet 0 braggers had Davonte Freeman on there rosters.

My first thought is national sports media is full of morons. Then my second thought is that much of Miami local sports coverage is morons. Then I'm sad Jeff Darlington is gone.

As for Foster- my guess is he and Ajayi will both see 10-15 touches in the game. Those touches might be out of the backfield on a pass, but they should get a fair complement of opportunities. Gase probably isn't kidding himself that he has Foster off an injury and Ajayi with the knee concerns. I'm guessing he will balance the attack situationally to reduce wear and tear to hopefully have both finish the season healthy. Then we draft Fournette and I'm stoked.

The media is looking at it this way Miami signed C.J. Anderson before Denver matched and he was to be the #1. Now that Ajayi is the #1 by default I'm sure they are looking to Foster as a proven #1 and ahead of Ajayi if fully healthy.

I look at it this way, better to have too many than too few.

From what I've read, and from Arian Foster's comments, it seems that Jay Ajayi will be the 1st down bellcow back, and Arian Foster will primarily be a passing down back.

Which makes sense, given Arian Foster's age, his good hands, and the fact that he's the best pass blocking RB on our roster.

I believe both Foster and Ajayi will be getting around equal series to run the ball, with whomever is the hotter hand, getting a few more touches. The name of the game with Gase is to have fresh and rested legs going into the 4th to hopefully use the clock to protect the lead in the end.

He was signed as a #1 back on a "prove it" contract. We won't be counting on him to be the #1, but if he pans out...he will be the #1.

I'm glad we have Foster. Rested and with fewer touches, he'll be able to go hard when he is in the game.

I think our front office has done a nice job over the past 12 months.

In the end, does it matter who the feature back is as long as they are the best on the team?

The RB committee doesn't always mean split carries, on the other hand it make it easy to go with the "hot hand" r legs in this case. Some weeks you will have J-Train as the main runner and others it may be Foster. At then end of the day, as long as the group is productive and we actually use them, then we will should see success.

We ought to sign Ray Rice too. I read an article on nfl.com that he'll donate his entire salary to domestic violence research. Probably get him cheap too. Then we can dump D Thomas, Pead and possibly D Williams.
