The Miami Dolphins re-signed veteran right tackle Vernon Carey on Friday to a six-year, $42 million deal. The move ended weeks of speculation regarding his future and Miami’s unused franchise tag, which some felt was being reserved for the 27-year-old offensive lineman. Now that it’s official, let’s talk about some of the reasons why this was a great move.

Give it a quick read and let me know what you think. Thanks!

"4) A true changing of the guard – Finally, after years of cut-rate solutions and veteran Band-Aids, the Dolphins seem to be a team that’s serious about building a formidable offensive line. Carey’s $42 million price tag and Long’s $57.5 million deal confirm that the new brain trust believes in the old saying that you can never have too many and that you can never pay too much for a good offensive lineman."

Nail on head. That's the difference between our classy FO and previous sign and hope FOs of the past.

no surprise here

We have the Guards & TE's & the best TackleTandem in the business.
Now, what about the Center?

Good write up and I agree, Carey was an important part of this off season and needed priority. I'm happy he's back in aqua and orange.

We have a very good tackle tandem, but we do not have the best in the business. Our guards were not good enough this year, and we definitely need an upgrade at center.

Another good article Hugo. I hope your #3 "Continuity" asserting that Vernon should revert back to his 'near probowl' level play proves true. I think that depends on him. He's got the skills, but needs to be more dedicated in honing them better and exercise more discipline when it comes to weight and conditioning.

I would have added a big 5th and, IMO, the most major reason why his resigning was a good move: namely that based on the lean marketplace, he was the best option available despite the realization that his play leaves plenty of room for improvement.

It was a good article and it was a good to great FO move...

We cannot forget that this signing means we don't neet at RT or any T on the first day and allows us to address another need

tx Hugo keep em rolling

If these are the specifics of the deal, can someone tell me how much against the $24M he counts this year? Thanks

According to a league source, here are some highlight's of the six-year deal Miami Dolphins OT Vernon Carey agreed to on Friday:

- $18.9 million over the first two years of the deal.

- $15 million in the first year ($12 million signing bonus/$800,000 base salary/$200,000 workout bonus/$2 million roster bonus).

Now get Brown from the Ravens and our Te,wr and Penny should have alot more time to pass even helping or running game more so.

good read as always hugo. i especially like point #4 and i'm glad that we're finally committed to stabilizing our continuously changing offensive line. keep up the good work my man.
