This was brought up approximately a month ago by a poster, but nobody ever posted the link to the story. Here you go. Have at it!

Some highlights...

Move over Montana to Clark, give me Lemon to Trusty!

wasn't the only one impressed. Head coach Marty Schottenheimer was fairly pleased as well, later commenting, "The only way I can describe rolling toward our bench and throwing the ball back was John Elway. There is a play etched in my mind where he did that to beat one of my teams. Cleo is not John, but he's performed very well over the past couple of weeks."

Keep in mind the article is meant to be humorous, but he's semi-serious as well.

Mods, please keep in mind that this article is not the same as the signonsandiego article that two people have brought up in two different threads already...this is Peter Shrager's piece where he practically dubs Lemon the next messiah.

Lemon sounds like a solid QB at this stage. Who knows what will happen if he's given an opportunity to start next year. He could surprise alot of the naysayers here IMO....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

right, so having read this, why on earth did the chargers trade him, and for a more expensive and less talented qb with less potential? this trade makes zero sense to me. who would trade for aj feeley in the first place? the guy has been on 2 teams and demoted to 3rd string both times. lemon seems to have some upside with serious potential, and he's alot cheaper than feeley. it just doesn't add up. the only way i see it making any sense for them is that rivers/brees is about to be gone and they want an experienced back up.

WOW...I'm really excited....this kid beat the 49ers scubs....with a 30 yd bomb!!! Pass the cat nip!!!

"Well, I watched the Chargers beat the 49er's in Thursday's pre-season finale. And guess what? I saw football past flash before my eyes. I saw something else: I saw football's future and its name is ...

Cleo Lemon.

Who?! That's right, Chargers third-string quarterback, Cleo Lemon. In only a quarter's worth of football, a man named Lemon stole my heart. The former Arkansas State gunslinger put on an absolute show.

Down 21-14 in the fourth, Lemon rolled to his left, escaped three 49ers defenders, and heaved a 30-yard bomb off one leg to tight end Landon Trusty for a score. A nearly impossible throw to make, Lemon ended up amongst his Chargers teammates on the sidelines as he released the pass. Move over Montana to Clark, give me Lemon to Trusty!"

That and his vertical passing skills are just wasted in our system. You guys got a great QB in a trade that worked for both sides. I'll miss Cleo.

If you wait long enough....you may get him back with another 7th rounder!! Never know with our GM.

AJ Feeley is a WCO kind of QB and Cleo Lemon is a vertical kind of QB. I just didn't realize that the Chargers' offense was more WCO than vertical.

Hey Pete,

Have you ever entertained the thought of supporting another NFL team?? I think you should, because you obviously have no loyalty to the Miami Dolphins....

PHINZ RULE!!!

Everyone chooses to use the NFL in their own way. Some people use it to believe in something and cheer for a team, and some people use it just to whine, complain, and criticize.

Trust but verify.....this kid is a lemon....and won't be a Dolphin too long. This deal was to dump Feeley.....and thats all.

So why not just say that???...

It's become quite annoying reading your responses this evening, and I'm sure I'm not the only one here who is feeling that way about it either. You, along with Skape / Enigmatics have done more complaining about this trade than a three year old who just had his lollipop stolen. From the very minute this trade was announced, the three of you have done nothing but complain. You guys call yourselves fans???...

PHINZ RULE!!!

Me either, I guess thats the only way this trade makes sense for them. I wonder what they renegotiated his contract to.
