would it be possible to franchise and trade chad pennington at the end of the year? pennington wouldnt be too happy about it, but we could get a second round pick for pennington if we did that. we could also control what team he goes too. the bills would be big players for pennington and we could either bleed them for him or not send him there. just a thought.

Second round pick? I doubt we could get a 6th round pick, with his injury history.

No way. If it backfires on you, then you're stuck paying him the average salary of the top 5 quarterbacks in the league. And he is NOT worth that much.

Can't imagine there will be a huge market for him. He's worth much more to us in some QB coaching or scouting capacity.

lol, Penny's arm in BUF? Seriously?

Penny will be allowed to test the market if he so chooses. His game will be best suited for a dome team or west coast, not the north east.

But I don't believe the market will be there for him. You can't have that many shoulder injuries and surgeries and still have market value at 33.

he led a team to a 11-5 record and a play off birth. hes the top available free agent qb on the market and this is a qb driven league. its him or jason cambell, who would you rather have? me id rather have pennington, and i really think alot of teams would come knocking. everyone knows he has a probowl year every other year, next year he should be golden. the raiders would certainly give us a second for him.

I can think of at least four teams that would be relatively good fits for Pennington: Cleveland (presuming Mangini's departure), Minnesota (presuming Favre's departure), Carolina, and St. Louis. He'd be particularly useful on the latter two teams as a one-year starter holding down the fort while a rookie QB is groomed ala Chad Henne, while in Minnesota and Cleveland he would be more of a "win now" acquisition.

If he were interested in taking a backup job, then the question becomes which team wouldn't be interested in signing him. But in that case, he might as well stay in Miami.

My gut tells me that Pennington will stay here in Miami in some capacity. Slight chance he could become an assistant QB coach. Slighter chance he becomes the full-time QB coach, allowing David Lee to become the offensive coordinator.

Maybe the Raiders would on Madden, but Al Davis loves the deep ball too much, and Penny doesn't do that.

And Penny won't be the top FA qb, at 33 and 3 shoulder injuries and surgeries, his time has come to sit. If Garcia couldn't make the Raiders this year, Penny won't make them next year.

I hope he don't stay in MIA as a player. Too many problems with that scenario. Could you imagine the cat calls for Henne to sit once Penny was able to come back? I mean have you seen the start Pat White threads? Penny said in a interview " I lead and win games". Him being behind anyone especially a young qb finding his own identity would be something this franchise and its young qb would regret for years to come.

The media and Fan base would be the one's to start the qb problems.

As for Cleveland and Carolina I would say neither of those. Going into week 3, Penny and Delhomme were fighting each other to see who could throw more picks since each teams playoff losses. Plus again, I don't see his arm translating to a WR like Smith. Cleveland, would be a no go, due again to his arm. I just don't see a real market for a 33-34 year old qb w/ 3 shoulder injuries and surgeries.

As for MINN, maybe. But those WR, especially Rice would take a step back. Farve helped make Rice and Harvin. He puts the ball in tight windows on a rope, something Penny has never done.

On my Madden franchise I traded Penny to the Raiders for a 1st round pick. They're actually doing pretty good with him too.

Obviously would never happen in real life though.

I think Pennington is done playing football. I hope we keep him as our QB coach.

Just replying to this since I'm one of a couple dozen this poster has blocked.
