Cutting Beasley was another move I didn't like that Nick Saban did. I know Barnes manhandled in the preseason but it was obvious to me that Beasley was the way better of the two. Did he end up retiring? Does anyone know?

Just curious, but what made it obvious to you? My impression of Beasley wasn't that good....I though he was soft and did little to justify his pay. Barnes looked hungry and was more physically imposing. Obviously neither guy did much for us (or another team) last year, but I wasn't disappointed in the choice.

It was smarter for our future and our cap but Beasley had a name and it could of made our run game look more like a threat so people could of maybe respected it a little more if we impressed early in the season!

If Beasley was so good how come he didn't get a place with another team after we let him go? Simple, he was finished and Darien Barnes actually played some good football for us this season, his aggressiveness is impressive.

Also we cut him as the season was starting! A lot of teams don't want to bring a guy in to learn a new system when the season is going to start and most teams our already established at FB or they already had a FB under contract and it would be costly for them to cut one and sign Beasley!

Barnes looked really good in the pre-season but he did not seem so aggressive during the season and that is what made it so obvious to me that Saban was a douche bag. Pre-season play is never a barometer of in season talent, just potential.

I 2nd that

What makes that decision to keep Barnes over Beasley even more strange was our moves to get that Kyle Eckel (not sure on the name) guy, isn't he on our roster now?

2 ways to look at that from the Nick Satan perspective, one he always looked to upgrade positions and Kyle certainly appears he is, and 2nd, they weren't very happy with Barnes play.

Bottom Line Barnsey dropped a few dump passes that could have been decent games from what I recal, if he can't catch and that's important in Cam's new system, than hopefully this Ekel (name?) guy can.

I think Barnes was under-utilized. He never touched the ball. In preseason they played every player evenly and Saban didnt care whether he did bad or good he played them. I think thats where he messed up during the season. He never had confidence in the young players. The only players he had confidence with was Daniels , thats cause he played under Saban, and Crowder because we had no other coice and the fact that hes a stud in the making. You never saw Fred Evans or Manny Wright or Y.Bell (until someone got hurt) or...well you get the point

Beasley came in fat and out of shape and unmotivated......he needed to get cut, he would have hurt us alot more then helped us.

Fred Beasley played like crap, that is why he was cut. There is a very good reason why he wasnt signed until so late in the FA period, and why another team hasnt picked him up.

Darian Barnes wasnt too good either, but he was better.

Cameron is still gonna want a different fullback, I think.

im still trying to figure out why u have Champ Baily in dolphins gear in your sig?????

Brian Leonard in the 2nd - 4th maybe? We also still dont know what we have in Kyle Eckle. I want to get a stud Full back/H back.

I dont know that either of them are good fits. The most important thing for a fullback in Cameron's offense is lead blocking. They do end up both running the ball and catching the ball, but that's secondary.

Brian Leonard came into the Senior Bowl selling himself as as more of a bigger runningback than a fullback. I believe he dropped weight from 235 pounds(Which is kind of small for a FB to begin with). Even at 235 pounds, from what I've seen he struck me as more of a runningback/recieving FB in the vein of a Patrick Pass or Sammy Morris.

Kyle Eckels, as far as I know is more of a Mike Alstott style fullback, as in his strength is running the ball as an oversized runningback than runblocking.
