The Pittsburg press really hammered Fred Gibson recently in the newspaper.
Here is a quote about what they think of him.

"The Steelers knew they'd left themselves short -- literally -- after waving goodbye to Plaxico Burress, who happened to be the franchise quarterback's favorite receiver before he was injured last season (which happened to be about the time the offense went south in 2004).

That's why the team took a fourth-round flier on Fred Gibson, who quickly revealed himself to be Alonzo Jackson in split end's clothing. It's also why the Steelers plucked Quincy Morgan (who should play more) off the scrap heap. "

Can you believe they compared him to a DE for the NY Giants! WOW and I thought the Miami media was bad. :D

I am left wondering about his ability to play WR for the Dolphins now.

He probably just doesn't have it, a 4th round pick doesn't get released from a team and then not maintain a spot on a 4-7 teams PS for no reason.
Especially with his supposed upside.

Uh he's back on the PS...

Saban cut him.

Why does eveybody talk about Fred Gibson? What's the deal with this obsession?

Gibson is a guy who needs to stay on the PS his first year. He is tall with long arms, but he isn't mental enough to play the game right now.

he really got bashed by Pit. Is he really slow or something?

Wasn't fred Gibson a CB for new england. Oh no it was Ernest :D Fat lot of use I would be as a media man

ace88 sumed it up he isnt mental enough yet..Chris Doering who was a wr with him in Pittsburgh said he has talent he just wasnt smart enough to know the plays and just seemed like he was inn a cloud..Doering does a sports talk show here in ocala in the after noons..and he mentioned that

Gibson dropped way to many big time passes at UGA to warrant as much attention as he gets on here. (as far as I am concerned). I was never impressed with him in college. let someone else have him.

Just for the record, Fred was All-SEC first team last year, and is Georgia's 3rd all-time leading receiver. He is 7th All-time for most receiving yards in the entire SEC. From Georgia's web site:

1. 204 - Terrence Edwards, 1999-2002
2. 182 - Brice Hunter, 1992-95
3. 161 - Fred Gibson, 2001-2004
4. 144 - Hines Ward, 1994-97
144 - Reggie Brown, 2000-04
6. 131 - Lindsay Scott, 1978-81
131 - Damien Gary, 2000-2003
5. 124 - Andre Hastings, 1990-92

I think the 'he drops too many passes' is a very weak argument. The first Georgia game I attended I saw Terrence Edwards drop three. All receivers drop passes. All running backs fumble. All QB's throw INT's.
