Fred Gibson Grade: 3.61
Position: WR
Class: Sr
School: Georgia
Conference: SEC
Ht., Wt.: 6-4, 196
40 Time: 4.62
Selected by: Pittsburgh Steelers
Round 4, pick 30 (131 overall) Grading System
BIO: Three-year starter who saw limited action with the first team as a freshman. All-Conference selection last year after posting 49/801/7. Has 10 100-yard career receiving games to his credit.
POSITIVES: Fluid pass catcher with excellent size/speed numbers. Solid route runner who is sharp into breaks and stays low on exit. Extends to snatch the ball from the air, quickly transitions to running after the catch and displays a burst of speed. Easily adjusts to the errant throw or gets down to scoop up the low pass. Deceptively fast and runs to the deep ball. Tracks the pass in the air, runs well laterally and shields opponents away with his frame. Nicely times receptions getting vertical to high point the ball. Possesses soft, sure hands.
NEGATIVES: Does not win out in battles like he should or hears footsteps then gathers into receptions. More built-up speed than sudden explosion. Loses focus, concentration and as a result drops a lot of catchable throws.
ANALYSIS: An athletic prospect with an abundant amount of natural ability, Gibson shows flashes of dominance on the field, yet has been spotty with his dedication to football. Possesses first-round skill and the ability to develop into a No. 1 receiver at the next level, yet must motivate himself and prove that he is willing to pay the price.
PROJECTION: Late Third Round
