Fred Gibson Grade: 3.61
Position: WR
Class: Sr
School: Georgia
Conference: SEC
Ht., Wt.: 6-4, 196
40 Time: 4.62
Selected by: Pittsburgh Steelers
Round 4, pick 30 (131 overall) Grading System

BIO: Three-year starter who saw limited action with the first team as a freshman. All-Conference selection last year after posting 49/801/7. Has 10 100-yard career receiving games to his credit.

POSITIVES: Fluid pass catcher with excellent size/speed numbers. Solid route runner who is sharp into breaks and stays low on exit. Extends to snatch the ball from the air, quickly transitions to running after the catch and displays a burst of speed. Easily adjusts to the errant throw or gets down to scoop up the low pass. Deceptively fast and runs to the deep ball. Tracks the pass in the air, runs well laterally and shields opponents away with his frame. Nicely times receptions getting vertical to high point the ball. Possesses soft, sure hands.

NEGATIVES: Does not win out in battles like he should or hears footsteps then gathers into receptions. More built-up speed than sudden explosion. Loses focus, concentration and as a result drops a lot of catchable throws.

ANALYSIS: An athletic prospect with an abundant amount of natural ability, Gibson shows flashes of dominance on the field, yet has been spotty with his dedication to football. Possesses first-round skill and the ability to develop into a No. 1 receiver at the next level, yet must motivate himself and prove that he is willing to pay the price.

PROJECTION: Late Third Round

It amazes me sometimes how some people can have so much talent and 'lack motivation'.

I want you guys to know that I'm saying this in pure fun and out of interest, but here are the guys madden ratings:

72 overall
89 speed, 90 acceleration
88 agility
62 awareness
73 catching

Yes, I can work with that in my dynasty :)

Those are the ones that lack motivation. If you can get thrum without much effort, you will drag your feet (Moss). It's those who are borderline that have to work all out (Zach) to make up for shortcomings.

im there with ya, its kinda sad thatway too, because many othrer peopel have that motovation but dont have the talent

I love this pickup, but 6-6 and ONE NINETY SIX POUNDS?! I am 6-4 and 205 and would hope an NFL player would be more muscular than me. Guess not. :)

I watched the video of Travis Daniels on that page. Man, he made some solid tackles in that vid. Very impressive.

Now I just watched the video of Oronde Gadsen version 2.0 ... uh ... I mean Fred Gibson. :D

He looked pretty good to me but more importantly who was the QB that was throwing him those bombs?

Yea man im thinking the same thing, David Greene is going to be one he!! of an NFL QB. Gibson looked pretty good, not quick but kind of speedy, he could be our #3 WR next year if Boston leaves. Another positive I see out of this signing is that we most liley dont have to look at a WR in next years draft, especially if Boston comes back. Good job Saban, now trade for David Greene.

i think he will b a great addition to the red zone offense, plus he started off slowly in pittsburgh camp but once he started to get familiar they said he was doing really well. maybe he was a late bloomer on learning thing on offense. i think he is a very good pick up 4 us. GOOD JOB SABAN. also that eckel pick up was also solid as well. saban is definitely looking 4 the future. lets all just b a little patient.
