These are my hopes for improving the Fins this year through Free agency and the first three picks of the draft. I only use the first three picks because I think it's way too hard to project the rest, at least for me it is...

New Free Agents:

Lance Briggs or Adalius Thomas LB. If we could add either one of these guys to our linebacking corps to play with Crowder and Zach, it would be unbelieveable! Both these guys are going to be heavily sought after by other teams though and we'd probably only be able to afford one.

Nate Clements CB. I know many of you would prefer Assante Samuel here, but the thing is, he's only 25 and I can't see the Pats developing him and not locking him up to a long term deal before he's even allowed to hit free agency. He's exactly the type of player they would want to keep longer term. Clements on the other hand is also great and it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to imagine him abandoning the harsh Buffalo winters in favor of sunny Florida and a wheelbarrel full of cash.

Kris Dielman G. He is a UFA who is part of that awesome San Diego chargers O-line. CC and Houck should be quite familiar with him and will hopefully go after him.

Free agents we should re-sign:

Vonnie Holiday,Wes Welker, Cleo Lemon, Keith Traylor, and Yeremiah Bell

we should let Kevin Carter and Dan Wilkinson go and we should cut Joey Harrington. Those three transactions alone will free up alot of cap space.

Draft, first three rounds:

1. Ted Ginn Jr. WR - This team needs speed on offense BADLY.

2. Oops! I had Colt Brennan on here, but it turns out he's going back to school for one more year. Instead, Drew Stanton should be alright here

3. Joe Staley OT - Get some more depth and competition at a position that really needs it. I hope he's still available when we pick here.

There are other free agents we could look at, in particular a couple of intrguing options at the left tackle position, but I just didn't think we could afford them and sign the top LB and CB in Free agency. If things worked out this way, I think we could all be well pleased don't you think?

1.Brennan is staying in school
2.Staley is a solid 2nd round pick, maybe late first
3.Not a big fan of Troy Williamson 2.0 as our number 1 pick

And we can't afford 2 big time FAs like Thomas/Briggs AND Clements/Samuel

oh and the Pats will probably let Asante walk. He's going to command a lot of money, and the Pats won't dish our big bucks unless it's a special case. Plus this year's draft is loaded at CB.

pretty good but i dont think Colt falls to the second, he's more than likely going to be a first rounder and his stock is only expected to rise when the combine rolls around.

Edit: aparently he's staying in school.

Yeah, Samuel has already stated that he is very unhappy with the Patriots management style and there is no way he is in New England next season. Adalius Thomas and Briggs are great players, but I'd prefer to stay out of those bidding wars. I would really like to sign Deilman to take some of the pressure off our QB and open up some holes for Brown. As for your draft scenarios, I'm not a fan of Ginn at all.

Just like Vince Young was supposedly Michael Vick 2.0? You don't know, I don't know, no body knows. You gamble in the draft. That's what happens. You go from Ryan Leaf to Phillip Rivers.

I reckon we might be able to afford both. We should have enough cap space to do it this year and meet our other needs...

Vince Young will be the 3rd best QB in his class when all his said and done. But the biggest difference between Vick and Young, besides about 6 inches in height, is that Young actually passed more than he ran.

Ginn is so much like Williamson it isn't funny. The only thing different coming out of college is that Ginn is a good return man.

hey if I'm wrong, I'll man up and admit it

One pretty good LB you are forgetting is the Colts Cato June and they will franchises Freeney so June will be out there. Not saying Briggs or Thomas are bad. I would prefer Clemants over Samuels but I bet Barfalo franchises him so Samules might be a good idea. I agree with your eesignings and your cuts except for Joey. I think keeping him and letting him duke it out with Daunte for the starting spot would be good for both of them. I am not sure but I don't think Joey is making a ton. If he is then they will probably ask him to take a pay cut, Daunte too. And knowbody knows how Daunte's knee really is yet. We also need to cut Mare. Cutting him and Carter alone will free up some money and u know most likely Zach and Jason will redo their contracts if asked to do so. They are the ultimate team guys. I think we also need to resign DBow, he is a solid backup that could compete with Roth for Carters spot aswell continue his solid play on special teams. Minor will be gone aswell I think. I would not be opposed to cutting or trading McMichael too. Justin Peele has better hands and seems to catch whatever they throw to him. How many did Randy drop or deflect into the hands of a defender???? I think we are going to see a fresh new offense and I for one am looking forward to it.

I appreciate that you'd be man enough to admit being wrong but your first statement is still speculation. And I'd be willing to bet that research would show as many differences between Ginn and Williamson as there are similarities but I'm not about to asign myself homework just to win a debate.

Eitherway, our offense hasn't had a burner type reciever since... I can't remember. It we can't get a franchise QB or LT then a speed demon wide reciever sure sounds appealing. You know what doesn't sound appealing? 16 points per game.

I don't think we'll get either linebacker in free agency this year, they'll just be too expensive. There are some athletic OLBs in the draft (Pozlusky, for example, might just actually be there in the early second).

I think Buffalo will franchise Clements again. I'm pretty sure the Patroits will let Samuel explore the market, they just don't overpay for anyone not named Brady.

Is Dielman an UFA, I thought he was a RFA? If he is an UFA, that's a no-brainer.

if you want a burner, I'd say look at Kevin Curtis and Bethel Johnson in FA. Johnson is a better return man, but Curtis has been a very good number 3 WR for the Rams. Plus there are guys in the draft (Paul Williams from Fresno, and this dude from Kansas State that allegedly runs a 4.2) that we could draft to be our long ball specialist/return man for a hell of a lot less money than Ginn would cost us.

oh and Pocoloco, I like your mock, but I think Burgess gets drafted.

I'd rather we let Holiday & Traylor go and start playing those three DL-men that were drafted in the past two drafts.

Harrington played well enough, but he's just never going to be mentally tough enough to get it done. Culpepper is the big question mark. His attitude could really hamper a new head coach if he chooses. He can be a HUGE distraction.

Based on how Mueller handled the Ricky Williams situation with the Saints, you've got to believe that he will be extremely cautious with how Pepper gets handled...

I like that you are thinking productively but it's not just speed. Kelly and Aromashodu had 4.2 speed and they didn't make the team. Ginn is regarded as a top 15 pick. There's got to be another reason besides speed. Maybe he has that "it" quality like Reggie Bush or Devin Hester. We could use a guy like that too- a guy who's able to affect that outcome of a game all by himself.
