Your point with Pitt makes no sense since they are a perennial playoff team so they can build on their foundation, havent lost many major players of late but when you are a perennial loser as we are in the ireland era you dont get any better with that strategy. Also when you have as much talent as Pittburgh has it helps also. You dont see Pittsburgh getting rid of their best player on offense for nothing and no Santanio Holmes was not their best player, Marshall is far and away our best offensive player. when they let people go they have people ready unlike us. Our talent level and Pittsburgh's is not even close so signing fringe free agents doesnt make us better. Hicks is not better than Carey, not saying much. marshall may be better than Bell or as good. Westerman is nothing special, plus we have lost our starting DE. we have made more holes this offseason than we have filled .
LOL
Wow, it's funny how people miss points entirely.
How do you think Pittsburgh got all that talent numbskull? By constantly switching regimes, and signing FA's, then all of a sudden miraculously they were talented? No this was years of good drafting that built that team.
Santanio Holmes may not have been their best player, but he was a Super Bowl MVP on a Super Bowl contender; his issue was the first character issue he ever had and they dropped him, for only a 5th rounder, at least we got 2 3's.
Hicks isn't better than Carey but he's cheaper, and isn't much of a fall off.
Westerman isn't anything special I agree, he's not supposed to be.
Langford as much as I liked him would not be a starting DE in the 4/3 system. He was a great DE for a 3/4 team, however, he was too much of a tweener, and that's why we let him walk. You know why we could...cuz we have depth on the DL! Through the draft of all places! How about that?! Crazyness I know, this is of course what happens when you continue to draft solid players.
R. Marshall doesn't need to be as good as Bell, seeing as they don't play the same position, Bell after all was a SS, whereas R. Marshall will be either FS or NB, from what I'm hearing it'll be FS, which would allow R. Jones to move to SS a position many think he was better suited for, now maybe he can put some of that playmaking ability he flashed as a rookie to use.
As I said Rome wasn't built in a day, teams start the draft with 7 picks generally, sometimes more, sometimes less, teams never hit 100% good teams hit on around 40% so over 4 years you want this build through the draft to be complete?? You realize Ireland came into a situation where we had woeful drafting for about 10 years prior right?
