Just a thought I had as I watch Parcells/Ireland work in free agency, the trade for Jason Ferguson probably eliminates any chance we draft Dorsey or Ellis (if they were even in the running?), if we sign Calvin Pace, that would seem to eliminate C Long and Gholston.

Assuming the braintrust feels they can get a left tackle in round 2 (which is true), and that they feel good about Beck, and also like Flacco or Henne later in the draft..........this would all seem to be setting us up perfectly for the ultimate bluff (or maybe not a bluff) that we are going to draft either Ryan or or McFadden #1 overall, which hopefully would get at least 3 teams vying for a trade up to #1 overall (Atlanta, Ravens and Cowboys).

Is it possible Parcells is trying to set himself up for a blockbuster tradedown?

I know its speculation and it is early yet, but I am beginning to see this take shape.

I will admit, going after Pace so hard ruins everyone of my draft theories. Chris Long and Gholston don't make sense with Pace here.

However, Jake Long just makes even more sense now than before.

Fergunson probably does eliminate Dorsey, but I do not think Pace eliminates Chris Long, if anything, adding Chris Long could make a nasty 3-4 D, Holliday/Fergunson/Long up front with JT/Pace/Channing/Porter behind? That sounds sick to me!

Also, I also think that Jake Long is still a huge posibility at #1, we could have a very solid O-Line with J Long and Smiley added

There are definitely some different draft scenarios coming to light now. I would say that with the addition of Ferguson & Starks, you could reasonably rule out Dorsey. If we sign Pace, that could potentially rule out Chris Long.

Now you're down to Jake Long, Darren McFadden, or Matt Ryan. We'll have to see what else Bill can pick up for us in FA before we can speculate any further.

I think it would be safe to say that we will grab a CB in Round 2.

I think our first 4 picks will be (in no particular order)

QB
OT
CB
S

But, what if they really like Anthony Collins or one of the MANY other left tackles in this draft? I'm not knocking Jake Long, but if we get a bidding war going for that 1st pick, trading down could be an enriching experience.

Very Good point!

I also love the fact that Parcells is letting it be known that he's interested in Michael Turner and will, of course, just not offer enough money.

All the GM's eyeing McFadden will suddenly get nervous with the Tuna's intentions (Draft McFadden and go with him and Brown and Booker, Cobb and trade RW?) and start talking deal.

Really good catch, there Buddy!

GO PHINS!

Both of those scenarios look exciting. I was against taking Long jr at #1, but more and more I think it is a good pick...

Turner is definitely a major smokescreen right now.

I never thought it would be so exciting to have a 1-15 record.

I totally agree it takes it down to 3, my point was that left tackle is very deep in this draft, we will definitely be able to get one at 32, so taking Jake Long is not a neccecity.

I just see a scenario where we could either draft Ryan or McFadden or bluff it in order to trick one of those three teams or somebody else that wants one of those two.

It just seems to me Parcells is keeping Miami in the drivers seat should someone badly want of those two players, instead of allowing it to be Atlanta or the Raiders. in other words, you will have to trade with Miami if you want to be sure to get the one you want.

I think J Long would be a great pick for us. He will be a stud pro bowl left tackle for the next ten years. Probably wont have any trouble signing him and the guy was an animal at Michigan. Only 2 penalties and 2 sacks allowed against big ten competition is pretty damn good!!!

I agree with you 100%. Bill Parcells has put us in a great position to be able to trade out of #1. If we could pick up an extra 1st & 2nd round pick in addition to our major haul of FA's, we could be a good team in less than 3 years.

Even if we don't trade down, we are in a good position to maybe pick up Matt Ryan, a good LT, & a good CB with our first 3 picks.

Finally some real cause for optimism!

I don't know boys, I think the Tuna is getting ready to bend Jerry Jones over the table.

Jerry Jones IS from Arkansas. Isn't that where they filmed Deliverance?

Squeal like a pig Jerry.

One thing is indisputable. Before the FA period, everyone thought they knew who Miami would draft at #1. No one knows now, and that is great!!! Way to go BP!
