Just a hypothetical situation but if we had a choice between Carl Nicks ( who I think will hit the open market) Jermichael Finley ( who probably won't but lets just assume he does) and Matt Flynn, which one of these guys would you want?

I think I would have to go with Carl Nicks due to the fact that A) he's a proven pro bowler unlike Matt Flynn and B0 that would give us pro bowl talent from LT LG and C. We could try Jerry at RT and move incognito to RG and we still have Murtha and Garner to have as depth or if Jerry doesn't work out to slide on the line where we want. I also think Colby Fleener will be a very very good TE in the NFL so I hope we take him to fill the TE need.

It's a tough thing to pass on Finley ( who I don't really think hits the open market but there's always a slim chance) because he is a mismatch nightmare. He can move out wide as WR due to his size and speed and we can keep Fasano in as a blocking TE who can also go out and catch the short to intermediate routes. Again, I'm just not sure he sees the open market.

Flynn is still unproven IMO. Yeah he has had two good showings in the games he has played but who wouldn't with that WR core? I'm not saying I don't think he will be a good QB in this league because I still think he can be but I don't want to take the gamble on an unproven commodity like him when I can get one of if not the best LG in the NFL.

What do you guys think?

Err, I dont think Flynn is unproven at all. I think he proved A LOT in the final game when he threw all those TDs. BUT, he is still a gamble since he doesn't start. I would much rather take Carl Nicks, just because he is a pro bowl OG and then we draft a RT like Jonathan Martin from Stanford, and boom...our OL is set for 10 years. Imagine the amount of throwing time Matt Moore will have, the running room Bush and Thomas will have. I think Marshall, Bess, Hartline and Fasano are good receivers. Marshall is a pro bowler, but the rest are good and I think Gates will develop well. No need to address our receivers just yet.

Im also not opposed to having Philbin, and letting Flynn, Henne and Moore battle for the starter role. Henne actually did pretty darn good when he played this season, but he has a tendency to throw INTs. But then again, so does Eli Manning and Drew Brees. But the Giants, Patriots, Ravens and 49ers all have a stellar OL protecting them.

Yeah that's what I meant in regards to Flynn is that he hasn't been a starter for more than one game. Would I like to bring him in? Of course I would, but not at the expense of getting Nicks. If we are to get Nicks though would you really want to use our 1st round pick on a lineman? I understand our O-line would be set for 10 plus years and that would be a beautiful things to have but I think a playmaker would be a better pick. To be realistic I would be looking at Richardson, Kirkpatrick, maybe a Floyd/Jefferies, or maybe even Upshaw. If they feel that Martin would be the best pick then go for it, but I feel like any of the above mentioned playmakers would be better picks than another lineman.

The only way I want Flynn is if Philbin is the coach and he's convinced that Flynn is the real deal -- and he's going to install a system that Flynn will thrive in. Otherwise, I'd prefer to draft a QB and scoop up Nicks.

I cannot believe you guys want a Guard over a QB or TE. Have we learned nothing from the Long and Pouncey picks.

Not to nitpick, but he has. Last year vs pats, this year vs lions.

Henne actually did pretty darn good when he played this season

Pretty darn good shouldn't be used to describe a QB
with a 57% completion ratio or 4 tds and 4 interceptions in 4 games

Or leading us to an 0-4 start to the season

If we consider this as "pretty good QB play we have sunk to a
new low of mediocrity

I'd go after all 3 but if Im limited to one then cleary Flynn is the guy. Yes he's unproven but so is anyone we draft. The worst part is that Flynn will likely command starter type money. Can we afford to sign him to a 3 to 5 year deal then have him sit behind Moore, who will be a free agent after next season?

In all fairness, he did that with no protection from the entire right side of the line, basically no running game, and two of the int's were balls thrown up at the end of the game.

Agreed. I wouldn't want to bring him in and completely change everything he has learned so far. If we can bring in Philbin and Clements as OC then I would want Flynn. otherwise i'll pass.

I would also like Meachem. I think he would be a great #2 WR. size speed and good hands. Whoever we hire as a HC will hopefully make a splash in FA and the draft!

Nicks for sure. Our interior line has been awful the past few years...Carey did play well last year tho.. Flynn is unproven..He played in that system for quite a while and played well in a few games and your ready to base your franchise on him? No way. Finley is a good player but he drops alot of balls and is a product of Aaron Rodgers? That team has a lot of weapons. Nicks would be first then Finley then Flynn on my lists of priorities.
