According to the Miami Herald, there was "no explanation given." More than likely, Strief is close to a deal with someone else. He's Rotoworld's No. 3 remaining tackle.

Zach Strief, I'm told, expects to return to New Orleans. We'll see.

Like Monroe wanted to stay with the Ravens all along, I'm sensing that Strief is doing whatever he can within reason to get re-signed by NO. If that's the case, at least we didn't waste the time and effort on him.

I have no idea, or any legit reason to feel this way, but I get a Clabo feel with Stief.

Saints have $5.2 million remaining.

Draft picks eat up what? $2?

Pay Streif around $3?

Streif is about to take the mother load hometown discount and also leave the Saints with basically no cap in the event of injuries. Or someone with a loaded contract is going to get cut.

Draft picks may be closer to $4 million for the Saints. The deal they gave Byrd may have prevented them from signing anyone else unless they get a long term deal worked out with Jimmy Graham and lower his cap hit.

The Saints are actually around $2.1 million under the cap. See it here - http://overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Saints&Year=2014. They need around an estimated $1.5 million required for their rookie pool. See it here - http://overthecap.com/initial-nfl-rookie-pool-estimates/ (under Cap Space Required). The team has a full 53 players under contract so there is a lot of flexibility in the bottom of the roster. They could quickly get a few more million by releasing 4-5 developmental players. Strief not visiting the Phins tells me GM Mickey Loomis as something worked out with Strief.

This has to be the stupidest thing that someone can do. Why you wouldn't come in and check the place out, kick the tires so to speak, just in case NO can't bring him back. While it is good for us and keeps us from wasting our time, I would think that his agent is not doing right by him to keep us uninvolved. What happens when NO can't bring him back and now he comes back to us with his tail between his legs? If we haven't signed a different RT or drafted one, do we even discuss anything with him or let him lie in the bed that he made?
