Antoine Walker, one of the NBA's top remaining uncommitted free agents, has emerged on the Heat's radar.

According to sources familiar with the Heat's approach, the team plans to discuss a role with the 6-foot-9 forward, perhaps today...

Already over the salary-cap, the Heat would be limited to a bid of its $5.1 million mid-level exception or have to work out a sign-and-trade agreement with the Celtics. Walker earned $14.6 million in the final year of a six-year, $77 million contract.

With Walker a quality ball-handler and streaky 3-point shooter, the Heat could field an oversized lineup of Shaquille O'Neal at center, Udonis Haslem a power forward, Walker at small forward, Eddie Jones back at his natural shooting guard and Dwyane Wade back a point guard, where he played in 2003-04 as a rookie before switching to shooting guard last season.

Anyone else a little puzzled by this? Maybe it's just the team exploring all options, but isn't the point more of a priority with the MLE than another PF?

And I like Wade at the 2, where he played most of last season. It seemed that when he was playing the 1 by design, he was less productive.

Laetner is always hurt and is aging rapidly. And Woods is still a ?. With that, we still need at least 1 PF.

I think they'd want Walker as a 3 more than a 4. Then EJ could go back to SG and Wade could handle the point. It allows you to have two very different looks, one with a ball-handling PG like Daaaaaaaaaaaa-mon and one with a lot of size.

I think he'd be a very good signing if he doesn't hog the ball. But that's a huge if.

If the Heat are looking for someone to put the ball in the hoop then their not going to find to many better at doing it then Toine. He's got a nack for scoring (even though he shoots to many 3's)!

Its got to be an extreme longshot. Walker is looking for a sign and trade so he can get more than the MLE. Its just not going to happen with a team like the Heat. Mabey Golden State, Charlotte....some team that is deperate for a low post scorer.

Yeah I hear ya. Players in Walker's situation usually find themselves with a crappy team for the money!

Well...if it makes sense for the team, and a sign-and-trade is available, then I guess it could only strengthen the Heat. But I'd hate to see us blow the MLE on a position where we already have Haslem and Simien, when we actually don't have a PG right now.

Theres no gauranteeing Simien will play, he may wind up with the same status as Woods and Wright last year, just developing. Thats why I think the Heat want some depth at the 4 and of course the 3.

Actually, I believe one of the reasons Simien was picked is specifically because he'll be able to come in and contribute this season. Not as green as Woods and Wright.

That jives with everything I've read about the guy too.

You never know, and I think it might be wise to bring in veteran SF/PF like Toine at a reasonable price(MLE). But there are others out there if we cant get Toine at the MLE.

Miami would be going backwards if they got Walker.

Wade, Shaq, Walker.......only 1 ball on the court at once! LOL

He could be Shaq's new Glen Rice.

Except Walker takes bad shots and isnt content with being just an outside shooter/3rd or 4th option. He wants the ball, and makes some bad decisions when he has it. He is a big name though so some team will overpay for him, wish they hadnt and try to move him before the trade deadline lol.

I'd much rather have Robert Horry. But he's staying in SA unfortunately.

I can understand the Heat wanting somebody who can fill it up, especially in the front court. But I'd rather Wade not be the point guard. I feel it limits him. I'd rather sign somebody to replace Damon Jones as the starter or severely cut into his minutes.
