I just got done reading Pope's article: http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/football/13483118.htm and found it interesting but unreasonable. he argues that both rosenfels and frerotte will not be around next year. i've really thought this through and have to disagree. personally i think only rosenfels will be let go. i don't think we will sign a free agent or trade for a player in the offseason who will be able to come in and be the starter right away. that is, i don't think we'll be making a play for the likes of culpepper, rivers, schaub, mcnair, etc. I like culpepper a lot and probably would be willing to give up a #1 pick for him but I don't think Minny would do it. Rivers and Schaub I would do at the right price and I would just say no to McNair. I don't think he'd be much of an upgrade over frerotte to be honest and he would also be another short term solution.

so that leaves the draft to pick someone up. i don't think we'll be able to pickup lineart (he'll be chosen by the time we pick) and it sounds now like cutler could be a top 12 pick and be out of our reach as well. but even if we draft a QB i don't think he'll be starting the season right away. i would imagine he wouldn't see time until at least half way through the season at the earliest. still, let's say they pickup a qb in the draft. that leaves lemon, frerotte and the qb drafted on the roster. i don't think that sits well for lemon because how can you trust a guy who has taken hardly any snaps at this level to be your backup qb? why would you have given up a 6th rd pick for him if you didn't see something in him? you could have cut feeley straight up and drafted someone in the 6th rd if you weren't willing to keep him for a year or two.

it should be an interesting offseason to say the least...

i believe gus will be back if we draft a QB then sage goes but if we dont draft a QB then sage will be there and gus will be out

I could live with Gus coming back if we draft a QB. Just as an insurance policy. But i dont want to see Sage and Gus rallying for the starting job come July next year. If that is the case, believe me we will not be going anywhere near the playoffs next year.

Personally, I want to see us get a QB, either through FA or in the draft, and keep both Frerotte and Rosenfels. Doesn`t sound like old Edwin quite agrees though.

You're in the minority ;)

Gus will be in Miami next season, whether that's as the starter or the back up quarterback. If the Dolphins make a play for Aaron Brooks this offseason like I think they will, then Gus will be Aaron's back up quarterback next season. The Dolphins will also draft a quarterback at some point. Probably not in the first round, but I can see them taking a flier on a guy like Charlie Whitehurst in the fourth round area.

Odds are that we will draft a QB or pick up Rivers or someone else who is early in thier career. Gus will stick around to help get the new guy up to speed. I hope Sage gets to move on, not because I don't like him. I hope he gets a chance somewhere else to show what he can do.

I have a feeling that unless lemon performs really well during the offseason... lemon will be let go.. and sage will remain a backup to Gus (assuming we draft a rookie qb).

sheesh look at the sacks on Carr and Bledsoe... holy crap

Bledsoe has 44

Carr has 68 (its a wonder that he can still walk)

Considering we were near the playoffs this year with them, how could we be a worse team with them back and the rest of the team upgraded?

I agree with you about Gus being back next year.I think Lemon will be gone.If we get a guy like Brooks or Carr or whoever...we'd still keep Gus and draft a QB.There's no way we'll have a rookie QB and Lemon(untested)as our 2 and 3 QB's.Nick will want a veterans QB as the back up and therefor Lemon's not gonna be here next year if we draft a QB.I also do think that is posible Nick won't take a QB in round one....I actually believe that we could take one in rounds 3 to 5.BTW,KB, what do you think of Betts? Seems like he could have the arm?

Ozzy rules!!

I usually like what Pope has to say, but I agree with those who think it is more likely Gus will return in some capacity next season. We currently have three QBs on the roster and apparently the braintrust of the Dolphins likes the potential of Cleo Lemon and Sage will be a UFA after the season. If we resign him and draft a QB somewhere in the first 4 rounds, why not just let the four then compete for the three available roster spots in training camp?
