Dolphins | Frerotte might need to restructure contract
Sun, 8 Jan 2006 10:36:12 -0800

Jason Cole, of the Miami Herald, reports <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/22/nfl">Miami Dolphins QB Gus Frerotte was asked about restructuring his contract by head coach Nick Saban when the two met earlier in the week. Frerotte said, "He brought it up, but nothing has been done about it yet." He is set to earn $3.93 million for the 2006 season. His original base salary jumped from $1.1 million to $3.6 million due to playing-time incentives, plus a $330,000 roster bonus on March 7.

I think Gussy will redo his deal.

This is the only place in the NFL where he will start and make anything more then the minimum.

Yes! Good start, Nick.

And a huge indication that Saban has no intention of starting Gus next year!!!!!!!!!

Party!!!!

I knew it. Saban is too smart to do otherwise.

this would mean that Gus is coming back....in what capacity, who knows

ask him now before we get other QBs in here

It doesn't. IMO he will be our starter next season, grooming a young pup.

I see really no indication proving he won't start but anything is possible so hold on to the party hats for now!:goof:

Which is exactly why he shouldnt be our guy next year. What youre saying is he is the worst starting QB in the league and i agree

Didn't know that Gus was slated to make that much $$$. I'm hopeful he will come to his senses and restructure.

I'm not saying he is the worst starter in the league. I'm saying he's in the perfect situation in Miami. He knows the offense better then anyone and his arm strength is what the coaching staff want from a Q.B.

I didn't say it meant that, I said it was a huge indication that it meant that.

If Saban was pleased with Ferotte as a starter and intended to keep it that way for another year, he wouldn't be asking Gus to restructure out of the gate. Gus' salary and cap implications really aren't that high for a starting quarterback... at all.

If he had any inclination to have Gus as a starter I doubt this would even be brought up until he'd looked into other options. Bringing it up now, to me, hints that Gus will not be asked to start next year.

Not in stone, but a good indication.

If by coaching staff you mean "Linehan", then sure. But I believe Saban would like something a little better than a 52% completion percentage.

And arm strength really doesn't matter a lick if you're average 6.06 YPA in a vertical offense.

And it may be a perfect situation for Gus , but it is an incredibly imperfect situation for the Miami Dolphins.

We'll see, but I've been maintaining all along that Saban isn't as much a Gus fan as Linehan is and every indication so far this offseason is that I was right. If you are remotely happy with your QB you don't announce publicly as soon as the season ends that it is the first position you want to upgrade. You don't say that about getting a better back up.

We'll see, but I bet I'm right.

Like it or not Gus is the best QB we have had since Marino. He has a strong arm and he knows how to step out of trouble when pressured. Also he is less prone to make major mistakes.Unlike his predecessors I dont think he threw a pick 6 all year.

His principal weakness is his accuracy.I dont think that going to change.
He is not the future of this team but we could do worse.

If this is the ONLY place he can start, how is he not the worst?

Fiedler was better in every single full season he had here. Twice SIGNIFIGANTLY better. And I'm no Feidler fan.

He had 13 picks and 13 fumbles (4 lost). I could care less about pick 6's, they are not a QB trait, they are statistical flukes. Is it better to throw a pick on their one yard line then a pick 6 on our one? Not a lot.

And when people mention mistakes I think it's only fair to include missing recievers by a mile. He barely completed half his passes.

As to his arm strength... he had a miserable 6.06 yards per attempt...

His principal weakness is his accuracy.I dont think that going to change.

It would be very hard to do worse. Or, rather, I should say that it would be very easy to do better.

And we will. Watch.

He'll be back making quite a bit less, but i still think he'll start for a while. As i forsee Miami taking some sort of QB in the draft, and letting him hold the clipboard until he's ready to play. Who that QB maybe....i dont know. But Gus i think starts come september, much to my dismay.
