Now that the QB situation is coming to light. We must all realize one thing....well maybe 2. The first is that Feeley for 2 years running hasnt been able to win the job. Will he in the future.... hmmm... I dont know if any of us see him as the future.

So here comes Gus. Wise to Linehans system. Sure hes old... hes a seasoned vet!... But all he has to do is be a caretaker. Dont make mistakes. Dish the rock to the playmakers. He has to keep this team from falling further from grace while we continue our search for a legitimate #1.

Theres no point complaining about what we got for feeley. Its all over now... it doesnt matter. It is what it is. Theres no point bashing QBs from the past... or whining about QB we gave up who are doing better somewhere else. That was all another regeme. All another time.

In the end I can see us with a big athletic QB.. Since Linehan likes those. But like anything good... good QBs are hard to find. And dont necessarily with you championships. Vick, Manning, McNabb, McNair, Culpepper, Hasselbeck, the list goes on... have yet to win a SB as starters. Theres no magic wand here.

But until we find our "future"... Just take care of the damn ball Gus.!

Rich Gannon was a caretaker when he signed on in Oakland. Remeber what he was able to do. Might not be a bad think. These old seasoned vets dont make rookie mistakes and keep ya in ball games, just what we need. I am starting to like the idea of Gus as our QB.

Frerotte could be a lot like Trent Green as well. Vermeil brought him to KC as he was the backup in STL, and he exploded in the right O. The situation we're in right now, reminds me of that a lot.

Yea, and I think Frerotte probably still has a few good years in him, if he stays on, and we continue to improve he could wind up leading us to a superbowl run

Actually, he was the starter but got injured. Then some guy named Kurt Warner came in and changed everything. Green would have been the starter if it weren't for the pre-season injury.
I don't see Gus as a care-taker. To me, Kyle Boller defines care-taker, he can't win you a game but he can convert a few third downs on occasion. On the other two downs, he just hands the ball to Jamal Lewis and if that doesn't work... well, he's got that great defense behind him. Gus on the other hand, has already shown that he'll be throwing the ball deep and making plays (he's avoided two drive-ending sacks with some footwork). I don't see him coming in and rewriting the record books but he will be a leader and a key role on the offense, not just a care-taker.

Yeah, well...I remember folks saying the same things about Ears...CARETAKER is NOT the word you want describing your QB...I'm sorry...can't go with you on this one...Frerotte will dissapoint us...Seen it too many times...

It would be truly glorious if Gus pulled a Gannon and gave us 3 stellar years while we find our future stud. Isn't it fun to dream! :D

I know that originally Vermeil brought him in to start, but in the end, he was the backup to Kurt, thats the point I was trying to make :D

Gus's splits over the past three years look like this (granted, it is a small sample size, but it could be showing a trend):

116.4 QB Rating
57.6% Completion Percentage
690 yards
10.5 yards per attempt
7 touchdowns
2 interceptions

His splits as a starter over that span:

134.8 QB Rating
66.7% completion percentage
506 yards
11.2 yards per attempt
6 touchdowns
1 intereption

I am surprised with Gus's footwork. He feels the pressure and he steps out at the right time. All the great ones do that. Not that I think he is great but IMO he will be more than adequate and better than we have had around here for several years.

Gus is not a caretaker, he is a legitimate NFL QB who has been to the Pro Bowl. He is not old yet, he is perfectly healthy and capable of leading this team. You never know how things may work out in the NFL. I don't think anyone believes Gus will go to the pro bowl this year. Like most QB's in this league, a lot will depend on the scheme and how the players around him perform. If our O-line plays well, we certainly seem to have the skill players to get the job done. We also know that Linehan is an excellent coach.

I think it boils down the O-line. How they perform will directly impact how Gus performs.

I knew he had played well, but had no idea it was that good. If the line can hold up, I think he's very capable of being a solid starter. The key to this entire season is the o-line.

THat's the thought that keeps me awake at night.
