The Miami Dolphins recently hired Mike Tannenbaum to serve as the team’s executive V.P. of football operations. As explained originally by the team, G.M. Dennis Hickey will report to Tannenbaum. Then, after questions were posed to the league and the team regarding whether the Tannenbaum hire complied with the Rooney Rule, which requires at least one minority candidate to be interviewed for a team’s senior football operations position, the league explained that the Dolphins didn’t mean to say what they said when they said Hickey will report to Tannenbaum.
Now, the Fritz Pollard Alliance wants someone to say more about what precisely the Dolphins have done in hiring Tannenbaum.
“We believe the Dolphins need to clarify Tannebaum’s role such as what role he has controlling the draft board and his overall duties and responsibilities,” Fritz Pollard Alliance counsel Cyrus Mehri told PFT via email on Saturday. “Further, they need to explain, given his title, why they think the Rooney Rule does not apply. It appears the Rule applies given his title, but they mistakenly thought it didn’t. If they made a mistake they should own up to it. At this point they have a lot of explaining to do and the FPA is working with the League to try to get answers.”

I personally wish they would explain his role to the fans but in reality they can call his role whatever they like.

You know I read someplace that Ross and Jones (who were mentioned as possible violators of the rule) really don't care that much either way. I think the fine was like 250,000 which to them isn't really a big deal. Also wasn't it reported it was cleared wit the NFL before the announcements were made?

The team interviewed a dishwasher before Tannne was sent in.
It is all on the up and up.

They did explain his role, whether it is actually his role, well that may be up for discussion.

This role seems to be a job that does not specifically exist in every Nfl building. I get tired of who you have to interview to hire somebody. To me this was not an open position to the public. Just a owner who has a relationship with a person who he feels comfortable with molding and managing his investment.

I hope that the FPA sends in a correspondent to our draft room just to make sure Tannenbaum isn't involved with our draft.

Is Tannenbaum Jewish? Maybe that meets the requirement?

I don't know why the Fins even made this questionable. You know the rule, work the proper steps to hiring and this wouldn't be an issue. It's not like this Rooney rule was just adopted two weeks ago and everyone is not familiar with the rules. Only the Dolphins
