FS and SS

I'm sure if I didnt point it out, someone else would have, so here it goes...

Saban doesnt believe in having a FS and SS, he uses right side and left side, both are expected to perform in either capacity.

That said, I think our secondary will be:

CB: Will allen
CB: Travis Daniels
CB: Will Poole

Safety: Jason Allen
Safety: Renaldo Hill
Safety: Deke Cooper

i agree...i think jason allen and renaldo hill will start but i also wouldn't count out yerimiah bell...just like at cb everybody thinks travis daniels and will allen will start but i wouldn't count out will poole...

Yeah, my money is on Jason Allen and Renaldo Hill as our best combo at safety.

There is a good chance that Jason Allen may not start at the beginning of the season, but he will eventually take the job over. The person who will be "keeping the seat warm" for Allen until he gets up to speed will be Yeremiah Bell.

i dont think allen will start i think you will see a bell, hill secondary but when and if they incorporate him i believe he wont hell be playing the prime time but he will be in and out. i see him going with vets like tillman, bell, hill, deke and allen will be mixed and matched according to who needs rest.

i also like the possibility of travis daniels playing a little safety but hes fine at corner.

also look for will pool too!! this is like having another FA pick up, we missed his talents the last year so i hope to see big ups on him

I would like to see how Poole does this year, he showed promise in his rookie year as an NB.

About the left side/right side thing...almost every team in the NFL actually plays left safety and right safety. But, pretty much every team equates right safety with free safety, and left safety with strong safety. This is because most offenses are "right-handed" so to speak. The strong side of the offense tends to be the right side on most offenses (ie. single tight end lines up on the right side far more often than not).

All Saban is trying to say with the left safety right safety thing is that he's not flipping safeties depending on which side is deemed the strength of the formation.

However, the responsibilities of each player DO change based on the strength of the formation. The guy designated as free has different responsibilities from the guy designated as strong. And, the right safety is probably going to be designated free about 70% of the time since most offenses are right-handed like I said before.

So really Saban's whole left safety/right safety thing is just semantics...and I more than suspect he does that just to mess with the media. The left safety IS the strong safety 70% of the time and the right safety IS the free safety 70% of the time, but yes they both have to know both roles in case the strength of the formation switches to the left side.

As such, you're not gonna see Jason Allen playing left safety any time soon. He's a right safety (free safety) right now, and will probably be starting there in Week 1 against the Steelers.

At left safety the starter is Travares Tillman but I've got a feeling Yeremiah Bell could be given a shot of beating him for a job.

I think as of Now, the starters are Tillman and Bell, until TC either validates them or show their weaknesses. Of the 2, I think Bell is the better S., thus he and some other maybe the starter.

This is my thoughts on the whole secondary, not just the safties.

Our secondary is like a lump of clay, it's versatile and flexible, and can be anything. In fact it is this quality that will allow us to dominate teams. We have Jason Allen who can play CB and S, that means teams will have to keep an eye on him all the time. He can be lined up anywhere, and it will give defenses fits.

At S we have Allen, Hill, Tillman and Bell. Bell proved last year that he is capable of stepping up and playing. Any four of these guys can be plugged into that posistion and be able to contribute with their own special skills. This ability to not miss a step with different guys, will mean teams will never know who they're facing next.

At CB we have Daniels who was a solid starter in his rookie year, and will only get better. Renaldo HIll is another versatile guy that can play either S or CB, and will help create difficult match-ups for opposing offenses. I don't know much about Will Allen, but I gather from most of you that he can play. Lastly we have Will Poole. He showed flashes of brilliance his rookie year, and could have possibly been a starter last year if he hadn't gotten hurt. If he plays NB this year, it'll mean we'll have a starter quality CB as our backup, nothing wrong with that. But also Poole will be able to play CB 1 or 2 in certain situations, adding for increased versatility. While Poole may be a NB this year, I expect him to make a strong push for the starter position and be the starter next year.

I think it will be Jason Allen and Deke Cooper. I watched the DB's closely at minicamp, and those were the two that impressed me the most, however, Tillman and Bell know the system better and IMO they may see playing time early.

As our CB's, I see Travis Daniel and Will Allen starting with Will Poole as the NB. Poole impressed me as well and I would not be surprised if he stepped in if one of the other two struggled early in the season.

RS: (FS) Allen/Bell
LS: (SS) Hill/Tillman

I think Cooper is the odd man out..... I just dont see us carrying 5 safeties.
