So apparently the Trifeca offence doesn't use the fullback much so most likely we only carry one on the roster.

Who do we think it's gonna be? - I love Reagan Mauia's potential (speed, size and aggressiveness) but does Boomer Grigsby's downright crazyness beat him out?

Does anyone know how effective Grigsby was at FB for KC, I mean I know he was a beast on ST but can the dude open holes?

Personally I think Reagan is potentially the better true FB which could mean we stick Grigsby back to MLB the position he was drafted in.

Can you imagine having to deal with Long, Smiley, Satele, Bentley (?) or Carey THEN have to deal with a 270 lbs Samoan wrecking ball coming at you. If you somehow evade these guys you still got to pull down Ricky or Ronnie - our running game is potentially very sick indeed.

This is a good question, and one I have thought long and hard about. They will probably only carry one Fullback, but I wish they would carry two.

Mauia had some problems early on last season, and doesn't seem to be the type of fullback that should be getting carries. Way to fumble prone. He got better as the season went on as a blocker and definitely has the most potential to be a true fullback between him and Grigsby.

Grigsby is a decent fullback, but he really shines as a wedge-buster on special teams. He has the potential to be a Pro Bowl special teams player. With the way our special teams played last season, having a guy like him on the roster is a huge upgrade.

If they are truly only going to carry one fullback, I think Grigsby will have the edge. Grigsby can play both the fullback position and can also play special teams, something Mauia can't say also. Miami is expected to use a lot of double tight end sets, so the fullback will not be called on a lot this season, which makes Grigsby even more likely to get the job.

I think Mauia is going to be our Starting FB this up comming season and i hope he gets it

I guarantee they keep both of them. They both can play special teams at a high level and it will add some depth to the position

Keeping both will be a luxury that they cannot afford with a 53 man roster. I just never understood the Hype Machine of Mauia and the Juggernaut BS. I actually fell into it for a week or so, then watched him closely on Sunday Ticket not blow a single defender up for 16 weeks.

As always, it's going to come down to special teams and I just don't see Mauia contributing there. I think he has an uphill battle to stick.

Exactly and EXACTLY!

Yes but when he was healthy he was one of our best players those years.

Konrad was horrible, I always wanted him to have a break out season. I think it wasn't his fault though, he wasn't used to his talents. He could have been great in an O that passes a lot to the Fullback, ala Moose Johnson in the Cowboys O. I remember Bryan Cox saying he couldn't block his way out of a wet paper bag...hehe

His game actually progressed pretty nicely atleast from a blocking standpoint throughout the season. Like the original poster said maui is the better true fullback and a guy that will continue to progress so if we only keep one I think it may be him, although the new staff brought in grisby so he has that whole "hes there guy" thing going.

When Parcells and Henning coached the Jets, they utilized two FBs with Richie Anderson entering the game during passing downs. His role was to initially provide pass protection before releasing if there's no pressure.

Dolphins' scheme was used as the reason why LoBooker was traded. We have to wait until pre-season to found out what this scheme is, but I believe we'll see a similar offense since Ronnie Brown could be very effective lining up all over the field as Curtis Martin was. He could be lined up as a WR in a bunch set to force the defense into a zone or motioned back into the backfield if the defense rotates in dime players.

The question I have is if a passing down FB could significantly enhanced pass protection. It would seem to simplify reads for the QB, whereas the QB would know to get ride of the ball asap if FB commits to block or scan downfield one more time if FB releases into a safety route. Another potential advantage for rotating FBs is that they can communicate with the booth to make adjustments for they next time they go in against the run or pass defense.
