I posted this story in another thread but it didn't exactly fit there and I thought you guys might get a kick out of it so here you go.
My connection to Beck is best described as an “acquaintance.†I am a BYU student, the same age as John, and we have some mutual friends. I know him well enough to answer a lot of questions you may have about him so feel free to ask.
As far as playing catch with JB goes. He ALWAYS wants to throw a ball and he is very competitive. I have a funny story about that.
A couple of summers ago a bunch of girls and guys got together for a game of kickball. I was playing left field and JB was on third base. A girl on the other team came up to kick and laid the ball down the 3rd base line with a funky spin on it so it was initially in fair territory but spun around the base into foul territory. JB fielded the ball way out of bounds and I thought the girl would be safe at first for sure. Beck had other ideas. When the girl was no more than ten feet from the base JB reared back and fired the ball toward first. Just as the girl was about to step on the base she was met with the hardest, most accurately thrown full size, rubber kickball I’ve ever witnessed. It hit her square in the shoulder (in stride), knocked her down, and got her out. (He went and helped her up.) I had never seen anything like thatâ€â€it was incredible!
Let’s just say I left with a lot of confidence in our QB’s throwing abilities.
