Future of Jason Taylor

I was listening to sports radio and I was very intrigued with what the host of the show was saying..He was saying that JT sounded like he was saying thru his words that he did not want to retire and that he did not care about the DPOY award, but that he cared most about going to the playoffs and super bowl. It sounded like JT wants to continue playing in the NFL but would like assurance in the future that he would be playing for a contending team. The host suggested that JT be traded to a more competitive team (ie, Colts) who has the ability to win a SB. JT is a class act and a great guy and never complains even tho hes a great individual player on a team that hasnt been to the postseason in 5 years. It would be great for all sides to trade JT to a good team for big compensation (1st round pick?) and with that, the fins organization can be happy they sent a good guy to a good team. The man is contemplating retirement, not cuz hes old or burnt out (hes 32 and played the best football of his life so far), but bc hes looking towards the future and realizes playing for the fins in the upcoming years is not much to look forward to. We can get great compensation for him, and it would not be an insult to JT bc like i sed, we'd be seeing him go on to a successful team. Imagine two first round picks in the 07 draft, we can get Gaines Adams to replace JT at DE, and an offensive guy like Jarret or Ted Ginn.. (Substitute ZT for JT and u have a similar argument)

i would not be happy having jt on any team but the fins..for any other player in the nfl..period..

I would hate to see Taylor go. He is the most exciting player on the team but he does deserve a chance to get a ring. It would be great if it was here. It could happen, the Saints turned it around in a hurry. I'm just afraid that if he goes, Zack may be next.

the day zach retires i am definitely going to straight up cry. but i'll cry like a man.

Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor is weighing whether to retire or pursue an acting career.

I want to see JT play is whole career in Miami and not end up like Seau trying to chase the dream by whoring himself out to teams. Although there is that part of you that wants him to win a SB and not sure if it will happen in Miami. I don't think JT would ask to be traded..he seems pretty loyal.

well he did say he doesnt care which coach they get...he just wants to win

he also said he wants to help the dolphins win and that a franchise can be turn around like the jets and saints and he said the dolphins are not far from bieng a contender in the palyoffs.jT is a phin and only a phin

You don't need to worry about Taylor getting traded to a contender, it just doesn't make any sense from any angle.

The Dolphins are going to want the best players available to the new regime next year to avoid a 2-14 type collapse as a new system is put in place on both sides of the ball. So there is no incentive at all for the Dolphins to trade him unless they get overwhelmed by an offer.

No contender capable of going to the Super Bowl is going to make the kind of offer it would take to pry Taylor away from the Dolphins. No smart team trades multiple draft picks for a going-on 33 defensive lineman, not even if he's the last piece in the puzzle.

So that leaves just marginal contenders, like Washington, Atlanta and maybe Green Bay in the prospective buyer's list. I highly doubt that Taylor would accept a trade to any of those teams, probably preferring to retire instead.

My gut tells me that it's about 80/20 that Taylor is back with the Dolphins next season with the 20 being the chance he just decides to retire.

As Denis Leary puts it, a sports guy retiring is one of the only times its ok for a man to cry
But yeah, I would too. Still underrated outside of phins fans IMO, as evidenced by the fact he led the league in tackles and didnt get 1 DPOY vote. I dont know the exact numbers, but I believe this wasnt his 1st time leading the league in tackles, either. Guy is a tackling machine.

I think people overvalue Jason Taylors worth via trade. Teams aren't going to trade first round picks for aging (32+ year old) stars. If they do, they're idiots. He's an outstanding player, but he's most valuable to us.

He said he would trade his DPOY award to be in the playoffs.

um, If I were the New England Patriots or the NY Jets I would do it in a heart beat. 32 or 35 doesnt matter. The guy is the best DE in football period. He is a warrior and plays hurt week in and week out.

Jason Taylor is not old. Jason Taylor is just getting started IMO. JT still has 4-5 good solid years left in him. I would look at it as similar to Reggie White.
