If there are any out there.

Are there any sports bars in the area that are Dolphins friendly? My son lives out there and he was looking for a good place to watch the game Saturday with some fellow Dolfans.

I used to be a Gainesvillain. The place to watch was this divey hamburger joint called Joe's Deli which has since closed. Don't know if a Dolphins-centric bar has filled the gap.

I ran the joe's on 13th for 3 years in gville in the mid 2000s. I told the owner he had to replace me because I literally did everything at the end. Hiring, firing, money, ordering ... everything. He thought he could promote from within. So after 30 years of being open ... they closed a few months after I left. I have so many stories about that place ... most awesome.

Google Image 'joe's deli hey deuce it's antwone' (spelled that way because I was hungover and couldn't find any 'i's.) We went through a deuce bigalow phase in the early 2000s. It happens.

It was, however, never a good place to watch games. Small tube tvs and the worst draft beer in town. They did have gator tails though.

Back when I was around gator city was a good spot. Big screens, cheap booze, greasy hangover food. That was forever ago though.

A few of my little bros' friends are up there now that are fins fans. I'll shoot a few texts and see what they say.

1. You used to go out on sunday after gator games? How?

2. I watch them at home. Took me months to convince dad to get the ticket, I can't go racking up card charges during game time

I tried. If it was 10-15 years ago I could tell you the spots, specials, and bartenders' names. Freakin old.

Ale House is a heavy Steelers favored bar. West of UF is Gators Dockside near the movie theater on Newberry/University. They played the sound to Dolphin games when I lived there. I went to there or Calico Jacks, but CJ's has since closed. Besides that there's always the dreaded Swamp but then your fighting a whole different crowd altogether and over priced bar food with the new owners there (same as 101 Downtown/Cantina). Not sure about other midtown restaurants like Mother's Pub, etc. Nothing downtown to my knowledge.

Wow Joes and CJs closed. I used to watch the games at CJS circa 2000-04.

Maybe try either of the Beef O'Brady's (Millhopper or 13th).

My time going there would have been 2005-2007. Especially the '05 and '06 seasons. I liked the burgers. And the beer selection was not great but cheap.

If you were there those years you probably got a beer or a burger for me. Did you have long black hair?

After "The Shamrock" became Mother's it downgraded as a bar but upgraded as a place to watch sports (not a good trade off imo). As I recall the person who complained loudest got their game with the sound on.

They were still open in '07? I thought they shut it down in the beginning of '06. I left before the fall semester in '05. I graduated that summer and thought for sure that Adams rib Co place was there. My chronologic memory sucks though - especially those years - so I will take your word for it. Apparently they were able to struggle on without me for more than a few months.

I had long curly brown hair at the time with mutton chops and winter park lacrosse shorts I wore every day to work for 3 years that people constantly mistook for clemson attire. I was pretty easy to spot back then.

Was the guy you're talking about like 7 foot tall? He was there around the time I left and had long black hair and worked the grill. His name was joseph. Was one of the sloppiest drunks you'll ever see. Made a mean burger though. Food there was outstanding. And it sounds like they finally fixed those disgusting taps with lines that hadn't been cleaned in 20 years and flies circling the kegs. I gave people drafts free when I worked the front.

So I had keys to the place. And drunk me always thought it was a good idea to invite people back to Joes after the bars closed to keep drinking and eat stuff. I can't count how many times people started showing up for work the next day with my drunk ass still asleep somewhere on the property ... often not alone. I would wake up and hear people showing up so I would just start prepping like I'd just shown up. They knew. But that wasn't until the end when the owners stopped caring and were shopping the place. I took the delivery truck home with me after work. Had a bong in the freezer in the back. Hired a bunch of cute girls with giant boobs to work the front and ordered baby tees as their uniform. (I know, I know. Give me a break I was like 23.) There was way more egregious stuff than that, but you get the idea. Best job I've ever had.

I left in mid '07, before football season. So I can't be sure. But I'm pretty sure it was open in '06. Could be wrong. My favorite memory from Joe's was leaving the Bills game when Sage Rosenfels led that crazy comeback. I was hungover so when the game looked ****ed I headed out (I almost never give up on a game) and missed the end. Gave me a good .

Joe's was a fun (ie cheap) place to go, but too damn bright. And the TVs were god****ingawful. You had to be straight on to them to see anything.

You wouldn't have remembered me -- I came in to watch the games and have a hamburger and head out, and I don't have any particular look (I'm not 6'10 or have a peg leg or anything definitive like that). Joe's wasn't the kind of place I went to for a beer and a laugh even though I knew the beer was cheap. I did manage to get banned for life from JP Gators back in the day, but that's another story. :chuckle:

The "Joe" of Joe's Deli when I went looked like a unshelled leatherback turtle. More than 6 foot tall, bald, square.

Joe was the owner and that description was perfect. He bought it from his brother bill. He was clueless and refused to work around my school schedule when I went back full time, so I left. Plus he tried to convince me to hire people based on their Christian backgrounds. That didn't fly with me. He was a big fan of the baby tees though.
