Dolphins Homer
Well, I generally do this after every game, and today is no different! Lets get right to it. Feel free to add your own comments as well.
-Gus did not look good. Spin it any way you want, but if it hadn't been for Welker stretching out and catching the long bomb, he would have looked worse than Lucas facing the Bills. Losing two fumbles when this was your game to put a stamp on the starter's spot doesn't help either.
-Speaking of which, Welker is a stud. Every time this guy has the ball, you get the feeling something good is gonna happen. He had an awesome punt return at the start of the game and that catch proves he can play receiver in this league. The more he is involved, the better.
-I can't explain the fumbles and dropped passes. It may have been wet balls ( get your mind out of the gutter! ), or more than likely, lack of concentration. Everybody seemed to have one that hit them in the hands and let it hit the turf. Perhaps Don Lee has infected the team with bad hands?
-The defense looks amazing. It has been active and hasn't allowed much scoring whatsoever. Our first stringers look great. Good to see Junior Seau out and about and stuffing the run. Channing Crowder also had a great game and Travis Daniels continues to impress. I loved his sure tackling on Hines Ward to prevent the first down on the first drive.
-Matt Roth had a terrific game. Not only did he have the sack, but on the play where Crowder dropped the RB for a 7 yard loss, Roth had a big push into the backfield to help disrupt the play. It looks like he may be coming along. Roth, Crowder and Daniels are the future of this defense.
-Speaking of futures, Manny Wright looked better this week as well. I saw him actually move his linemen back a few feet and he was jumping up and getting his hands up to try and block the passes. He wasn't succseful but it is good to see him trying. Maybe Carter and Saban know how to motivate him. Vickerson is looking in shape as well. Good sign.
-Feeley has earned the right to practice with the first team again. I am not willing to say he should start against Tampa Bay yet, but I think if he has a better week in practice, then he should. I was afraid this might happen and now we have a 50/50 split on who should be the QB.
-We need to go down the field more often. It seems that is when Gus is most accurate. Some of his short passes just looked awful, namely the screen pass to Ricky in the second. He also underthrew McMike a couple of times.
-Mann's fumble negated a lot of good he has done. I hate to say it, but he may have sealed his fate, and Thompson's as well.
-O-line looked ok. I am still not happy with McKinney. He played better last week than this. I still think Hadnot at C and Middleton at RG is the best combo.
-Sad to see the Newson experiment end the way it did. I don't think he will be back next year unfortunately.
-I would have loved to see Ronnie Brown but hopefully by keeping him out, it will give him another week to absorb even more of the playbook and look even better against the bucs.
