Gardener to DE...........

CNNSI has a story out right now that kinda explains to me what Wanny is thinking when it comes to moving Gardener to end.

After reading this article I just hope Gardener comes back healthy and ready to play healthy for a couple years. Gardener against a TE/OL should work out pretty well since he's used to being double teamed anyways :).

Can you imagine if Gardner could rush the passer and we finally had a productive replacement for Trace Armstrong!

I would expect DG to start at DT if we signed a quality DE like Sinclair. I am not convinced DG w/b ay better a pash rusher than Mixon, though I think he can close down his side ag. the run damn well.

I believe that D-G will be given alot of work at D-end during training camp and reps during preseason. A quality D-end will be brought in ( like Sinclair - the Phins can always use them) at minimum salary, but I think that WannSpeil have come to the conclusion that with the money they have invested in D-G, they are going to have to try moving him around and mix him in certain situations to keep him healthy.. I don't know how Gardener will work as a DE , but it will be a very interesting training camp and preseason to see how this situation unfolds ! Marino1983

This kind of sounds like how the Jets used to use Mark Gastineau, though I hate to compliment them on anything

Gardner needs to stop being selfish and turn in to a team player. If he would be able to stay oon the feild for the majority of plays then by all means he should keep his 6mill he is scheduled to make, but since he will only be available for about 50% of the plays ,if he stays healthy enough for that, he needs to restructure. I mean the front office has shown they will do what ever it takes to win the SB, but now it is his time to help Miami bring home a championship. If he would only take about half his gauranted salary and turn the rest to incentive bonus Miami could bring in TW or CC, and a guard.

I take DGs stance as a sign that he is NOT healthy enough to play at all. I get the feeling he knows this and is hoping to keep as much of his payday as possible since there will be no more big contracts coming if he can't play anymore. If I'm right he will never get the incentives so why give them the opportunity to pay him less. Personally I think Gardener's playing days are close to done. Back injuries are usually the end for a lineman. And if that is the case then he's gonna hold onto every penny they owe him.

Im looking forward to seeing DG on the end. I think its a brilliant idea! To prolong the career of a player with the DEDICATION that DG has is not a risk, its a chance! Its a chance for the Fins to have one of the more dominating front fours in recent NFL history!.................... Imagine having 2 300+ pounders in the trenches with a stronside end of DG's stature and skill( Have you seen this guy, he's a monster), bookended by the likes of a Jason Taylor, pass rushing extraordinaire! Bring in a energizer bunny killin' 3rd down specialist like David Bowens after DG has worn down a TE or a OT for 2 plays, and you have what is known as great chemistry and punting situations!Go Phins!

Good post. Hope your right. I know he started his career with us trying him at DE in traing camp. For some reason I don`t recall, it did`nt work out. I know he has to loose some weight (at least 20lbs). That alone will make it easier on his back.

I would not expect DG to be a good pash rusher, but at 6'6", he can try to swat down some balls

I doubt he would be worse than Mixon.

What is the big question mark will he be able to hunt down a qb on the move? I mean Jay will flush his share of qbs over to DG side, but will DG be able to get to him quick enough?

what is Gardener's 40 time? Speed and leverage is what makes a great DE, we all know D.G. has excellent leverage skills. Can he run, that is the real question here.

Hmmm how did the title of my post get changed? It's showing up as "DG" now. Never called it that.
