With the Zone Blocking Scheme, having a Centre like Pouncey 'should' let you do a lot of things. He could easily reach block on a 3 tech therefore allowing Guards to release out to 4/5 techs and same for the Tackles. Heck we've seen Pouncey pull and lead on sweeps. This sort of talent doesn't come along that often.
The challenge we have is we have such an imbalance of athleticism across the OL that Pouncey is head and shoulders above everyone else. If you look at the OL of Denver back in the Terrell Davis days and how they moved in such sync with each other and even in recent years [not this one] with Houston. For Zone Blocking to work, you need to have 5 OL that are on such the same wave length, including mobility and athleticism.
Now, with what I'm about to say now, please don't misinterpret, but with Pouncey out last night, there was more cohesiveness than there's been recently as all 5 were/are on a similar par level of ability to each other, including Brenner, granted it's not the level that we need as we continued to see pass pro issues, but they worked well together and had decent success in the run game. I'm not saying get rid of Pouncey that he makes our OL worse, I'm just saying that there's such a difference in talent level between he and the other 4.
