http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=260913106DETROIT (AP) -- Gary Matthews Jr. hit for the cycle -- and did it in order, too -- and the Texas Rangers routed the Detroit Tigers 11-3 Wednesday night.
The Rangers roughed up Justin Verlander and sent the AL Central-leading Tigers to their 10th loss in 15 games. Detroit leads Minnesota by 1½ games, while Chicago moved three back.
Matthews led off the game with a single, doubled in the second inning and hit a triple in the fourth. He got his cycle when he led off the sixth with a 418-foot homer to left-center. The All-Star center fielder also walked in the eighth.
Matthews became the third Rangers player to hit for the cycle. He joined Mark Teixeira (2004) and Oddibe McDowell (1985).
