To be honest there is NOTHING Gase did with the Bears that was so special as to put him in the same category of the good ones.
Like I said, I wanted a coach/coordinator that did wonders without a top 10 QB. Gase is note one of them.

My list of OC:

1.- Mike Shula (Panthers)
2.- Harold Goodwin (Cardinals)
3.- Hue Jackson (Bengals)
4.- Chan Gailey (Jets)
5.- Greg Roman (Bills)

The odds for Gase don't look good because there is nothing he has done that looks really good.

Any of the those 5 on my list has better odds. All of them did amazing things if you consider the QBs they had. Newton was like a 400% better QB without a TOP WR (I think we will regret a LOT not hiring Shulas son), Palmer looked resurected and even better tan ever, Jackson made the ever mediocre Dalton look like a TOP 10 QB and he did some incredible adjustments, Gailey did an amazing job with freaking Fitzpatrick at QB! and finally Roman made the Bills offense the strenght of the team with Taylor at QB and we know 1st) Ryan is NOT an offensive specialist and 2nd) He ruined the defense in one year.

I really hope I am wrong and Gase is the next Don Shula. Hey ... I will be grateful if he is an above average coach. But coming from the 23rd ranked offense that hardly improve under his tenure with Jeffery, Forte, Cutler, Bennet and a so-so OL. I don't like the odds and I DONT LIKE the hire at all!!!

Of course we need to give him a chance before labeling him. We are giving Tannehill 5 years, so why not give Gase a couple of them. But it doesn't look good.

I'm with ya on Shula but you lost me after that

Gase has ALOT to prove, let's face it. He has a fan base to win over as well. Only time will tell if this was a good hire. Are we in for another 3 mediocre/downtrodden years or are we on the way up? I will take a wait and see stance.

jeffrey was out for part of season,Forte hurt half season,Bennet on ir,#2 wr out for year, rookie rb. I would consider that a hell of a job.Did Gailey do it without Ivory and Decker,Shula without Olsen and Stewart,Jackson without Eifert,Hill and #2 wr . If your going to make comparisons lets not compare apples to oranges

The only one from that list that would have excited me was Hue. Maybe Shula for sentimental reasons. Beyond that, if you think there's blowback over Gase, imagine how many enraged members would be shouting from the rooftops over the likes of Roman and Gailey.

My own priorities were Shanahan, Jackson and Coughlin. If it wasn't gonna be them, I'm relieved it's Gase instead of the likes of Marrone, Mangini, Mora, chan or Roman. So everything's relative :idk:

I wanted experience so outside of Hue and Shula that list doesn't do much for me.....

both of which would've been big risks because of having to wait for the hire.....unfortunately that plays into it.

with the amount of job openings available, we couldn't afford to wait and miss.

and finally, there is much.....MUCH more to a coordinator making a good HC hire outside of the box score or standings of their offensive/defensive units......

I too wanted Mike Shula. Hue Jackson would have provided some intrigue for me and Shanahan would have been solid. I'm officially not a fan of the Gase hire. Time will tell...

I'm with you on the Shanahan bandwagon Vaark. But I only named the coordinators I think have done better than Gase last year. I believe Shula will surprise soon and Jackosn was a solid one, also Goodwin.

Like I said I hope we hit the lottery with Gase but I don't like that he did not proove anything wihout a TOP 5 QB.

I said I didn't liked Tannehill because he was a converted WR, and odds were not on his favor. I'll say it again with Gase. Hope I am wrong on both cases

Thanks for your answer and for not laughing like others that should instead be laughing at the mess this team has been since long ago.

Of course you don't...because you can't see the forrest for the trees.

Jackson went 8-8 as a head man and you are salivating for him.

Peyton Manning says this guy is the smartest dude he knows...good enough for me...sorry.

Gase was writing gameplans and doing scouting reports in high school.

Saban is clearly a great head coach....regardless of how he lied to Miami or quit on pro football. Gase is the one staff member Saban took to LSU with him when he left Michigan State.

Regardless of the huddled masses.. .those in the know....know Adam Gase is a bright young innovator in this league....and I commend the team for landing the hottest head coach prospect out there.

I wanted an experienced Head Coach. For too long this team has been run by people who were new at their job whether it be HC, Coordinator, or GM... it's been the blind leading the blind. They have some talent, but overall the team is a mess. Get someone in here who knows what needs to be done and how to do it. The immediate goal is not to reach the Super Bowl next year by covering gaping wounds with band-aids, but to build a solid team that can be competitive for years to come. This will take time, because a lot of their current starters would be lucky to be a back-up on a good team. To his credit, this is what Philbin attempted to do... the problem was that he had no business being an NFL Head Coach. He got rid of players who didn't fit his system because he wouldn't (or couldn't) adapt his system to fit the players. He took over a Top 5 Rushing Defense, and now there are only a handful of defensive players worth keeping. His offensive vision has left the team with an incompetent o-line that allowed Tannehill to be the most sacked QB over the past 4 years, and the inability to muscle their way to a 1st down on 3rd and short. The only improvement under Philbin has been the WR corps; every other part of the team needs overhauling. Will Gase and Grier be up to the task?

I could understand if you disagree with the hiring, but to act like its a night and day inferior choice to your list is laughable.

1.- Mike Shula (Panthers) His passing offense was ranked in the bottom 10 on the year and he was fired at Alabama.
2.- Harold Goodwin (Cardinals) Everyone knows Bruce Arians is the mastermind of that offense.
3.- Hue Jackson (Bengals) 8-8 in his last head coaching gig. Solid choice but no guarantee.
4.- Chan Gailey (Jets) LOL
5.- Greg Roman (Bills) 49er fans vow he destroyed their offense with his playcalling in Harbaughs final year.

IMO there is no night and day difference in odds between Gase and these men. Except for Gailey. He's proven to be a solid OC but he will never be a championship winning coach in this league. Miami fans would have burned he stadium down with that uninspired hire.
