The Dolphins are now looking to fill both assistant linebacker coaching positions today, following the departure of inside linebacker coach George Edwards on the same day outside linebacker coach Jim Reid was introduced at the University of Virginia.

A club source confirmed this evening that Edwards is no longer employed by the Dolphins. Edwards was not fired, the source said.

Indeed, Edwards is gone because he apparently is taking a job at the University of Florida as a defensive assistant of some sort, perhaps even the defensive coordinator, another source not affiliated with the Dolphins told me.

We have now lost both out linebackers coaches.

If he is anything but the DC with the Gators, I get the feeling he was told to look for other opportunities... Nobody leaves a job as an NFL position coach for a job as a college position coach. Even if he wasn't "fired", it doesn't appear as though we tried very hard to convince him to stay. Expect Al Groh to be hired as his replacement.

Latest reports have him indeed taking the DC position with the Gators. Al Groh is definitely going to be a strong candidate for his replacement. Perhaps Groh will fill the entire void left by Reid and Edwards departures.

are losing either LB coach really that bad? Edwards was LB coach for 3 years (ILB for 2) and the LBs never played well under him. Reid became a DC at Virginia but the OLBs never really did anything under him (Porter had a career year yes, but he was a top notch player before Reid).

I don't like having 2 coaches like that anyways. It usually causes confusion. Look at Washington a couple years ago when they had a CB coach and a safety coach; everybody was always out of position cause they were taught different things

Could you imagine what a nightmare if we had a CB coach, Safety Coach and Gebril Wilson? Three different things going on in the secondary.

Hopefully there are a couple of others that follow this route.

We had linebackers coaches? Are you sure?

 believe it or not we did, I bet it sucked too having to deal with the ego's from players with no talent. Now dont bash me I'm not saying our LB's are hard to work with IDK but with joey, channing, jt, akin I could bet they had to earn them checks. Although our next lb coach should be hopefully dealing with a bunch of young hungry beasts!!!!!

Also I didnt mean no talent just lack of production.... you know what I just fail on this post sorry!!!
