Gesicki may be a Chicago Bear soon. (RUMOR)

If we can get Roquan Smith, I say go ahead and do it. I love Gesicki, but I have enough faith in this FO, our scheme, mostly our coach to find a productive TE who is likely already on the roster. We would be better off with Roquan, assuming this is real.
I think you're right. I would like to see more of Long to see if he could be a factor. But it could allow Miami to keep an extra wide receiver, where the Dolphins appear to be stacked.

Smith on this defense would be fun to see.

Fan forums mean very little to me on a players ability and mental level.
I agree, they r unlikely to have met the player. But they also may be far more well read on their team. I have learned a great deal from our forums.

Yep. Hate to say it, but if we could swing something realistic it may be the move due to how stacked we are at WR. Gesicki is basically another slot who is more athletic than our current ones. But with Cedrick Wilson, EZ, Lynn Bowden, maybe Sanu getting reps I think Tua and our run game may be better off with a TE that can block consistently & help.
Even if we don't land Roquan, we should be getting a pretty nice pick back in return for Gesicki. I know it won't be easy, but if we can package a mid round pick and Gesicki for a 2nd, it'll help us with losing the 2023 1st rounder. I am also not quite sure if signing Mike to a big long term extension is a smart move unless it is really team friendly. So he is probably gone, anyway. We are so stacked though that if they moved Teddy & Gesicki prior to the trade deadline, we won't suffer that much this year. I will just miss Gesicki in a playoff run. But again, if he is gone next season they need to get both done if we can bring in a better return.
Did you read the Roquan thread? OP is saying for Roquan we need to trade Gesicki, two first rounders, maybe more LMFAO... If that is the case, I take my chances with moving a mid/late rounder maybe with another player for a 2nd round pick. If possible. We aren't trading ANY first rounders for Roquan. F that noise.

Definitely a lot to unpack. I'm also not sure Gesicki is a great fit for this system, although I do like him as a player. I believe McDaniel will use him more as a redzone mismatch and probably get something close to a pro bowl year out of Gesicki. Is he gone after that? That seems likely.

But if it's Gesicki and a mid-round pick for Smith, I'd do that. Definitely not giving up a 1st.

Was hardly a showcase he played 4 snaps and caught 3 passes and a td. Seems more like he’s just head and shoulders above 4th and 5th stringers. He’s a solid 3 on most teams however our depth is insane.
"A solid 3 on most teams"? LMAO, I like the kid, but he has a big fat grand total of 28 career receptions, 28, and that was two years ago on a team that had almost no talent at the position.

Not saying he can't be a productive receiver, but that statement is ludicrous given the facts of the situation and that he has in no way proven to be that.

Sure I am.

That's assuming a cap space of 218 million which is about 10-12 million short of the expected cap which will be 228-230 million.

Using spotrac the tricky year is next year.

By also cutting useless players this year that will leave us approximately 35 million.

You get a guy like Smith and sign him to a front loaded contract, that leaves you with the ability to still roll over about 15 million or so next year.

This now puts us at or around the cap space.

Will make things tough with Wilkins and all. But seeing as how 2024, and on, our cap space will be over 70 million, the key is making 2023 work.

I believe Grier can make it work.

This is the type of move that could make the Phins true contenders, not just the playoffs.

Let's hypothetically say a move like this puts us in the Saints position in 5 years or so because we have to manipulate contracts.

Well, a trip or 2 to the SB or a few years of being a true contender is worth it for me if it means a rebuild in 5-6 years.

As opposed to being close, but not quite good enough to compete with the Bills and Chiefs etc.
The problem with front loaded deals is the player will come back later and say i'm severely underpaid this year vs market and want the deal re-worked, after making more than the top guys for the first 1-2 years. You can do that for guy later in their career who likely won't see the end of the contract, but for younger guys, that's not a team friendly or flexible deal. So for a guy like Roquan already looking to "break records" as the highest paid LB, that's likely setting a franchise up for having to redo his deal in a few years because he's unhappy again....likely when deals for Waddle, Phillips, Holland and others will be needed.

There's only so much money in the pot to go around. Next year, Miami will have 5 players at $15M+ (2 @ $20M+, 1 @ $30M+). Those contract are over 50% of the current cap.....and that does not include Wilkins, who will be looking for a payday. Yes, we can free up space with some cuts, but you still have to replace those players, and the cap could increase more than what's currently being used. That said, I just can't see them making a deal, giving up resources and that kind of cap space for an off the ball LB.

I actually want Mike on this team and don’t want to give away talent unless we are getting talent in return. If he walks next year so be it

Interesting. I keep reading all this hype for Cole Kmet in FF and it baffles me. Crazy how much things change the final month before regular season.
Don't be surprised if gets even crazier during the next two weeks - LOL

If he walk’s away be get nothing so we might as well trade him for a stud at a position of need

You sound like a Congressman - LOL

One thing about the cap situation. Miami set up Hill's contract, similar to Jones contact, where there could be, a likely contract restructure. I believe Miami has the option to restructure after the 1st year. It looks like Grier set this up knowing he'd need future cap space in 2023?
I TOLD YOU SO when everyone was talking about re-negotiating his contract. The FO really knows what it's doing with these contracts - LOL
