Dolphins coach Adam Gase said rookie tight end Mike Gesicki has proven he’s ready to be a starter, or at least handle a large role in the offense, and that’s thanks to the tremendous progress he’s made since being drafted.

"I’m still learning and still trying to pick up some new things,” he said Sunday. “I’m not even close to where I want to be, but I’ll continue to keep working and learning from the other guys and just continue to progress. But I definitely feel a lot more comfortable than when I first got here."

"When you first get here it’s trying to grasp the playbook and all that stuff, and now that you’ve had the reps, and I’ve made my fair share of mistakes and learned from those mistakes, so now take those experiences and learn from those and take it into the regular season.”

I still cant believe Miami ended up with both of the players I wanted in round 1 and 2. We all know about Fitzpatricks work ethic, but by all accounts Gesicki is an extremely hard worker too. I've been critical of Gase in the past, but I like what he did with Gesicki in the preseason which was basically turn him into nothing but a blocker so he can improve in that area... we all know he can run, jump, catch etc. I have no doubt that Fitz will be a special player, or that Gesicki will make an impact for this team... love it.

I want an athletic, seam busting TE that is also a high point red zone threat so badly! A legit threat at TE opens up so many options. Please let Gesicki be that guy for the next decade!

Well no... Unless you believe he's going to get a target every time he runs a route...

Right, if Tanny throws his way 6 times, thats a decent share to start if as far as hoping he plays a big role in passing game.

I think he will deliver for us. We need a guy like this badly in the red zone and seam and I’m not sure how many defenders can actually cover him.

Didn't get many opportunities in the preseason but he worked extensively with Ryan Tannehill during and especially after practices.

I just hope they get their timing right because he can solve a huge chunk of our redzone problems.
