With the missed call on the PI against the Ravens, I became curious after watching the replay. Are receivers able to put their hands on the DB's within the 5 yard window or is that window solely for the defense? My thought is with Gesicki's wing span, he should be able to jab or shove the DB and knock him off balance and the DB should never be able to touch him. I am just unsure if he can create separation with his hands if the defense brings press coverage on him.

Receivers are not allowed to push off, you have to be crafty enough to do it subtly so you don't get called for it.

The rule says no, but normally if you're pushing off trying to break contact initiated by the defender it's normally not called. If it's viewed as an attempt gain get an unfair advantage it will be called.
He might have been soft but that was still a PI that they didn't call. Not even close

You want a pi there you got to try to go thru the guy. He did none of that. Even tannehill who had a lousy first 3 drives I might add was looking around like wtf on the effort.

i think RT's WTF was for the refs, but your point is well taken. You gotta fight and show you woulda had a chance for that if not for the PI.

on these RZ jump ball plays, the DB is almost always getting super handsy. then it becomes like a no holds barred grapple.

I definitely agree that he was playing soft, maybe he has just been practicing that route against the air too much, but you could clearly see the DB had his shoulder into his chest. Hopefully he continues to learn all of the little things like this and understands how to draw the flag or get to the ball during the season.
I agree he has to learn to sell that way better. It did look like he gave up as he was cut off by the DB and this is why I've been wanting them to go to Gesicki in pre season games. He needs the practice with Tannehill out there. But I still say that was a PI but ok.
I'm not arguing that point, I'm just defending Nat. The officiating was terrible.
