There is your beast at NT. Not sure if he fits our scheme but any scheme that includes a DT getting to the QB and busting up the front. Its a no brainer for me.

Value is the next question however because of Haynesworth.

he has the right size to play NT he is the same hight as Ferguson and is 3 pounds heaver then Ferguson i would be really happy if we got this guy i was at the game where he messed up alex smiths shoulder

He is a penetrating DT who is at his best when he can pressure the QB from the interior. He is a valuable guy for 4-3 teams.

REally? So Ferguson is not a penetrating NT? And I just watched a game on tape last night vs. Raiders. I got news for ya. We still play a 4-3 in spots. I completely disagree with this notion.

No, Ferguson is not a penetrating DT. He specializes in taking on the double teams so his LBs can run to the football. And yes, we do run the 4-3 "in spots" (usually nickel situations), but we wont be paying Rocky Bernard to play "in spots". He wants to get paid.

I thinking we will be draft Ron Brace, which is exactly who we need.

I didnt say play RB in spots. I said we play the 4-3 in spots. Doesnt mean RB cannot play NT in a 3-4. That is absurd. I suppose Ron Brace is exactly the right guy in a 3-4. I think that is absolutely rediculous that one fits and the other does not!

Right now, CB seems to be creeping up the top need board. Allen becomes a FA next year. My draft board is now changing.

Rocky Bernard couldnt hold up against the run as a 3-4 NT. It is really not that ridiculous.

No, thats rediculous. I wonder what your thoughts were when Roth moved to OLB in the 3-4.

Its really not my friend. The guy is a very good pass-rushing DT. How many NTs do you know that specialize in getting to the QB?

So thats what a NT does in a 3-4. Just take on two guys and stuff the run? Im sorry, but thats a bit much. Dont tell me guys in Baltimore or Pittsburgh dont have NT that do not get to the QB. Rocky Bernard does a whole lot more than just beat his man and get penetration.

And How is he different than Ferguson? Or Starks? Cmon, i just dont buy it. We can agree to disagree and based on whats happening so far, I am not real confident our FO is actually thinking about this. But yes, Rocky Bernard would help us reak havoc on the DL for a couple of years. Its that simple to me.

how long has he been in the league

I dont know how else I can explain it without going into a full comparison of a 3-4 defense and a 4-3 defense. If anything, Rocky Bernard would play end in our scheme. Guys like Ferguson, Casey Hampton, Kris Jenkins and Vince Wilfork are responsible for taking on the double team. Do they get sacks? Sure, now and then they do get to the QB, but that is just gravy. As Sparano himself once said, you dont assess the true impact of a NT by looking at their statistics... Because they really arent supposed to be making tackles. Thats not what is asked of them.
