I was watching the Jets game just now on NFL network and let me tell ya Gholston didnt look to impressive. He wasn't with the 1st team unit. and when He played he only had 2 tackles with 1 ast. He was getting pushed around by the backup LT, but i will say his GUN's are Huge he looks like a WWE guy out on the field.

Cant wait to see how Jake handles him during game 1 that is if Gholston even makes the starting lineup. Whoooo:up:

Gholston was so lost in pass coverage that he was deeper than the cornerbacks on quite a few occasions.. LOL . He looked like a chicken with his head cut off out there.

Wow one play, can you tell me what happen the rest of the game. PWND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vernon's a freak...He went right through Jake and Mike Hart on that play. It's crazy...as a Buckeye fan, I used to love it when Vernon would blow up plays against Michigan and smack Long, Hart and Henne in the mouth. Things are different now.

you guys need to remember that Gholston played DE in college, so adjusting to NFL OLB is gonna be a weeeeeee bit of a challenge for him.

this is very true. Gholston is a physical specimen, but he is not as athletically gifted as the two guys he has most recently been compared too; DeMarcus Ware and Shawn Merrimen. Both were not only more athletic, but had very refined pass rushing skills. Gholston is a very very good prospect, BUT he is extremely raw as a pass rusher who has pretty much relied on talent alone to beat guys in college. He's gonna have to learn some moves to be successfull over an extended period of time.

That is not say he's gonna be a bust though. Had he been drafted by KC, Oakland, St Louis, or another 4-3 team, I think he'd have a fairly impressive rookie season cause all he'd have to do is go after the QB. As a 3-4 OLB, in a Billicheck influeced 3-4, he's gonna have to learn a lot of new assignments that he has never had to deal with.

i think Calvin Pace is the guy rushing off the LT Gholston will be on the other side

In my opinion Gholston should be in a 4-3, not a 3-4. He should eventually get it, but I think he is better served as an DE in a 4-3.

Yea he is new as a OLB, he did look lost at times, he had 2 QB hurries and should of had a sack if he took a better angle. He will get better, hes just not use to the position and really can't play full speed because of it.
We use him at a lot of different positions, DE and OLB. WE move him around a lot, and he missed a lot of spring practices because of the reporting rule, and Ohio State ending their classes later then others. So he hasn't had much time, I am hoping he gets it by the start of the season, probably won't start, Bryan Thomas and Calvin Pace will be our starting OLBs.

He was never going to start from day 1, he will be a situational pass rusher this year before hopefully being ready to be an every down player by next season. He is still a bit of a project, he's been in camp 2 weeks, he didn't attend the OTAs and he's learning a new position at the highest level of the sport. Long is light years ahead of him at this stage of their careers and that is normal.

I remember some of those "Draft Ghoulston" threads....what a shame it would have been to spend a pick that high on a guy who isn't going to be able to make an impact in yr 1....glad it wasn't us.
