Didn't see this posted anywhere, but looks like he improved on his already impressive 40 from the combine:

"Vernon Gholston turned in a performance this afternoon that likely enhanced the outgoing Ohio State defensive end's chances of being among the top 10 picks of next month's NFL draft.

At the Buckeyes' annual pro day, where draft eligible players workout for NFL coaches and scouts, Gholston ran a consensus 4.58-second 40-yard dash. That was about a half-second better than he had run last month at the scouting combine in Indianapolis.

Even though a 4.6 is considered excellent for a defensive end, Gholston gambled that he would do better on his home turf after working for several weeks with OSU strength and conditioning coordinator Eric Lichter.

"A lot of the times I saw (coming out of Indy) were around the 4.6 range, and I know I wasn't in that range; 4.5 was what I wanted to push for," said Gholston, who also popped a personal-best 42-inch standing vertical jump. "It was going out there and showing that I can do that."

That's about a tenth faster than the combine where I recall he ran a high 4.6. Regardless, he's definitely an impressive athlete.

Yeah I didn't catch that when I read through the article the first time.

He definitely didn't shave a half second off of anything, but a 4.58 at 260-270lbs is really impressive.
You're right, by the way, it was about a tenth of a second improvement over his combine time.

i dono he might be TOOO tempting to pass up at 1. BTW i was readin today in a mens health magazine that when you jump (the same way htey do at the combine and at the pro days) that when your arms are bigger studies have shown it helps you jump higher tremendously when you push up wiht your arms. Im sure those suckers on his arms helped a great deal. I think Merriman at a 40" he topped it by 2. I dno man hes a freakk all i can say.

Pro Day is hand timed versus electronic at the combine, obviously its still a good time, but don't carried away with talking about him shaving a tenth off his time.

Gholston's definitely one of three guys I would be very pleased if we drafted.

Ive ben on his bandwagon for sometime. It's down to the Longs and Gholston and I won't be disappointed with any of them. I hate offensive lienmane with such a high pick cause skills players are just more exciting, but we could have the makings of a nice line witht he addition of Jake. Chris Long has the leadership type mentality, very Zach-like in his appraoch from what I hear. Gholston is just a specimen, Bo Jackson-esque.

I still dont see how anybody gets excited over any players pro days. So after 4 years of watching a player, you see him run a fast 40 and do some nice bench presses and you now think he is a better player. If they like Ghouslten fine but I hope its not based on this crap.

Right but if it not for the combine we may have drafted C. Benson or C Williams over Ronnie Brown in 04..

I see what your saying but he has also proven his presence ON the field as well as off it.

Fin, you make an excellent point about the value of the NFL Combine!

Not sure Benson would have been a bad back for us. He has been pretty damn unlucky also. He held out just like Brown did but had the misfortune of Thomas Jones playing the best he ever has, Jones earned the starting spot and about 9 games into the season Benson had taken the starting job, only to injure his mcl in his first start which was going well 12 carries 50 yards with six minutes in the 1st half left. Jones gained 1300 yards that year.

In his second season he was atop the depth chart in training camp and injured his shoulder in a collision with Urlacher during a scrimmage. Benson was on the injury list all preseason and Jones was made starter since Benson did not play at all in preseason. He basically was the backup all year to Jones and really did not get alot of carries until the last 7 weeks of the season of which he ran pretty good. He even had 109 yards versus Green Bay. Jones ended up with 1200 yards rushing and Benson 647 with a 4.1 average the same as Jones.

Going into 2007 Benson was made the starting runningback. The bears struggled all season and just as Benson was coming off one of his better games of the year he got injured in the 11th game of the year, his replacement ened up the year with the same average as Benson. Benson ended the year with 674 yards in 10.5 games and injured his ankle in the 11th game of the year. Thier line did run block pretty damn bad.

So Ronnie of course has been the better runningback so far but who knows what happens to Ronnie if Ricky is not suspended those 4 games and then the next season. Benson has had to sit behind a pretty good back for two years and then played fairly poor his third year. Brown has been much better than Benson in every way but Benson is still a very talented back that might have been a much better player here.

As for williams, williams was very good his rookie year, had a poor second year and was having a decent start when he tore his pattela tendon last season and may not be ready for 2008 season.

I personally wanted Braylon Edwards, I had him as the highest rated player on the board and my next choice was Derrick Johnson LB. I had hoped for a trade down and almost cried when Leinhart did not enter the draft. Really wanted to trade down and take Aaron Rodgers if possible.

So far of the three runningbacks Ronnie has been the best and odds are he will be since Caddy is in really bad shape and Benson and Lovie cannot get along. I still think Benson has great talent though.

I still hold my poor opinion of the combine but you are correct, Ronnie made his mark at the combine. I just think more often than not, its all on the game film.

Ronnie still may only be the third best runningback from that draft behind Frank Gore and Marion Barber although I rank him behind Gore and ahead of Barber.

Grade mainly on combine = bust. i'm with dlockz. If from film and interviews he is #1 then take him. If not don't. None of the end of season listings had him at the top of the list. For me that says something. His body of work isn't worth #1. Mind you I'm having difficulty seeing anyone worth #1!
